Care for some hops with your hops? Before we ferment our 5 Barrel Pale Ale, we strain it through a bed of 'em. Then while it ages, we add even more. We like how this gives the beer a fresh, lively finish. We like hops.

As we go about refining the recipe for each new beer, we brew up just five barrels at a time. That's exactly how we arrived at this pale ale -- so that's what we named it. Plus, it sounded a lot nicer than Giant Vat Pale Ale.

5 Barrel Pale Ale is a wonderful oddity. Itís hoppy, sure, but it has a fruity sweetness that Iíve not encountered in any other pale ale. The strong malt presence certainly helps, but the hops also help to create those notes of citrus, berry, and even tea. Odell did a great with this pale ale. Itís something totally different in the wide, and often repetitive, world of hoppy beer.

Bottle from Fyne Wines, Argyll. Dulled hop aromas with slight lemon zest. Very soft on the palate with gentle effervescence, subtle nuttiness and constant undertones of bittering hops. A very moreish Pale Ale despite delicacy of flavours.

Bottle @home, pours amber, malty sweetness on the nose. Fruity, lime citrus, floral as well on the palate, nice without being great.

Pours a nice hazy orange with firmly suspended sediment and lasting soapy head. Aroma is bready malts, citrus, and a little tea, balanced nicely. Taste is much of the same, citrus into earthy, bready malts and a dry finish. Palate is medium bodied with high carbonation.
