On tap at the White Horse American Beer Festival, 2nd July 2010. Brown with a magnolia head. Very malty nose. Likewise in the mouth. Biscuity malt and burnt notes with a good underlying bitterness. Nice stuff and definitely tastes like the Scottish style.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at Heritage Liquors in Maplewood, MN. Pours a copper amber colored brew with a thick off-white head that slowly dissipates to a thin film top and some spotty lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, floral hops, and a touch of toffee. Taste is medium bodied, with flavors of toffee, caramel malt, and touch of fruit. Finish is semi-sweet with dark pitted fruit and floral hop aftertaste. Best to describe as an average amber ale but with more body.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Rockcrawler (192) - Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA - JUN 26, 2010
Pours a solid amber with medium head that leaves great lacing. Aroma is of caramel and roasted nuts. Flavor is decently bitter with slightly sweet and smooth malts. Medium bodied and light carbonation but with a crisp mouthfeel that leaves a nice clean smooth feeling. Finish is quite bittercrisp for such a malt dominated beer.

Pours a gorgeous deep amber color, malty aromas with lingering head. No hop aromas to speak of. Tastes are classic amber ale, malty backbone, well balanced bitterness. Nice session type beer, or intro to ambers for a newby. Good beer, will drink again.

I’m always excited to drink 90 shilling, but I’’m almost always disappointed. It usually tastes oxidized and doesn’t really convey any of its hops characteristics.

The subtle aroma is syrupy malts with a pleasant note of sweetness. The color is dark brandy with a nice carbonated on tap. The flavor of a tame, Scottish ale with nice sweet malty feel throughout.
