COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Richer than most amber ales, 90 Shilling is smooth & deeply satisfying, with a crisp, clean Colorado taste. The name comes from the old Scottish method of naming a brewery's beer, based on original gravity and resulting tax rating.

A tasty treat. I’ve read about some of the chefs at restaurants I like drinking this one and I can see why. Without food, it is really good and I can see a nice pairing with food. The color is a beautiful copper amber hue with a nice head that holds on for a few minutes and then dissipates. A substantial coating mouth feel without being overly sharp or heavy. Probably a little too rich for a session beer, but you could take your time and drink a few.

Pours a nice caramel brown color with an off white small head. Aroma is lots of malts and yeast. The taste is nuts, roasted malt, and some chocolate. Not a strong beer by any means, easy to drink, a good session beer. Pretty good but not fantastic.

Lovely chestnut brown colour. Mutued aroma of ryebread and a little dried malt extract. Soapy texture, malt driven. Puckering dryness with a faint toasted note, also some treacle syrup in there too. Strange one, its taken nearly the whole bottle to work it out. Just cant get passed the soapyness ( and yes, it was a used glass)

Bottle from Utobeer. Very decent ESB. I mean its got a mid chestnut colour, thin lasting beige head, aroma of malt and some american hop (so not a Scottish Ale, since when were American hops grown in Scotland), good solid malts in the mouth and then a slightly hoppy juicy finish. It’s a decent ESB. Not a Scottish Ale. At all. Enjoyable.

Bottle Pours an amber body with an off white head. Very malty with some earth y tones, a bit like soil sout and dirt. Bitter with a earth y finish. Didn’t care for this much.

malt nose, mild bitters well balanced against some malt flavors that are tame compared to any other 90 shilling i’ve had, very dry (again not typical for style), yeast flavors seem about right, seems small for a 90 shilling, a tasty well balanced ale, but not really much of a scots ale

A nice, dark amber pour into my pint glass yielded very little head, some lacing. A very mellow beer, tastes like Boddingtons with a little more roasted grain and malt flavors with a buttery finish. An absolutely delightful beer.
