Bottle at Embassy Suites bar in Denver. Pours caramel red-brown. Little foam. Decent sweet malt aroma, some nuttiness in nose and initial taste. Light body, but pleasant. A nice, easy drinker good to go with a sandwich or something of the sort,

Bottle. Had this several times, but I’m finally getting around to rating it. I’m glad I waited I guess - I like this better than I remember it. Slightly murky amber pour with a small white head. Aroma is caramel and sugar. Nice smooth palate. Taste is also sweet caramel, with a touch of hop. Pretty nice.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 dynamiteninja (724) - York, North Yorkshire, ENGLAND - NOV 6, 2011
Bottle. Thin white head with semi-decent retention. Amber body. Pine, malt, brown sugar, hints of fruit hints of nuts. Bittersweet with some alcohol. Long very dry finish with hints of pine and brown sugar. Warming. A little too sweet. Rather watery on the palate. A fairly prosaic interpretation of the "Scottish Ale" style. I think it suffers from the label, as it gave (me at least) false impressions of what the beer would taste like, when in fact it is really more of an amber ale, as the label says. As a matter of fact, this beer reminds me most of all of a souped up Newcastle Brown Ale. Both are in the Edinburgh Ale tradition.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 GJF (973) - Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA - NOV 6, 2011
Dark ruby color. Nice fluffy head. Sweet malt aroma. Flavor is also sweet with a bit of nuttiness and smoke to it, some caramel. I don’t always like this style, but this is well done, a little thinner and less sweet than normal.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 beerbill (2850) - Laurel, New York, USA - NOV 6, 2011
12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with crajun. Pours a hazy amber with a moderate off-white head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left light lace. Pleasant aroma of malt with notes of caramel. The flavor is malt with just a bit of caramel sweetness. Mild hops bitterness at the finish. Medium bodied. Was expecting a little more depth, but otherwise a solid ale.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 GTAEgeek (438) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - NOV 5, 2011
On tap at Farley’s in Las Cruces. Pours dark copper with a thin off-white head. The aroma is caramel, some roasted malts and spicy and earthy hops. The flavor is very sweet with a mild hop bitterness coming forward in the finish. The palate is medium, syrupy and fairly effervescent, with a faint bitter aftertaste. Overall, this is a subdued but quality beer.
