3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 jgb9348 (3371) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - AUG 1, 2008
Deep hazy reddish amber coloured body with a large tan head - this one looks nice! Aroma of roasted malt, peanuts, pecans, caramel and a hint of smokiness. Medium-bodied; Strong roasty malt flavours with a heavy dose of nuts, caramel and pit fruits. Aftertaste shows more of the same with bitterness and alcohol around the corner with no complexity in the malt. Overall, a slightly one-sided beer that had the makings of a great beer when seen and smelt. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Goebel Liquors in Wichita, Kansas on 25-March-2008, sampled on 01-August-2008.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 soyorganic (241) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JUL 20, 2008
Tap: pours amber color. Malty taste with a hop compliment. Nothing too rememberful (actual word) but nice beer. I may have to re-rate this eventually.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 GarrettB (546) - Littleton, Washington, USA - JUL 17, 2008
Another one of the staples from O’Dell, found nearly anywhere in Colorado, or so it seems. This Scottish styled beer pours a deep and dark cranberry and plum color, with small islands of bubbles making up the whole of the tan head. The smell is abundant with well kilned malts, wood, smoked and pulled pork, fig, beef bouillion, grape flavored Kool-Aid and maybe a bit of deliciously moldy cheese. And yet despite these heavy flavors the taste is a little watery and even more delicate, with a re-appearance of the Kool-Aid, a handful of wet hay and a squeeze of pomegranate juice. The flavor is a little discordant but very full of simple Scottish flavors, again at a competitive price.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 shanepardue (110) - Raytown, Missouri, USA - JUL 9, 2008
Pours a slightly darker brown with a cream-colored head that doesn’t dissolve too quickly. The bottle reads that this was their attempt at lightening a dark beer and it definitely tastes that way. A little more flavorful and strong than an amber, yet not darkly bitter.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 dalekliz (648) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 8, 2008
Bottle. Pours a brown-amber with white lacing. Sweet aroma of malt, hops, some caramel. Taste is both sweet and sharp, of hops, and then changes to a combination of sweet and bitter. Mild lingering bitterness. Tasty.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 desurfer (1154) - Annapolis, Maryland, USA - JUL 5, 2008
Draft. Pours a deep copper with little head. Aroma of roasty malts and a touch of sweetness. Flavor is rich on the malt side, with lots of toasty grains; hops take a back seat. Finishes caramely sweet. Pretty tasty.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 uhclem (249) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - JUN 20, 2008
Pours a beautiful rich copper with a substantial tan head that subsides fairly quickly. Medium lacing. Nose is malt with a hint of vanilla. Taste is crisp malt with a great hops blend. Mouthfeel is nice and the aftertaste is bright and fresh.

Certainly plenty of malt to go around in both aroma and flavor — as a Scottish style ale should have. Mostly sweet with fruit notes. Then there are the hops, present in both aroma and flavor and especially in the noticably bitter bite in the aftertaste. A good, flavorful brew with a nice balance between malt and hop, but I am not sure this is true to the style, though I would not hesitate to drink another.
