Richer than most amber ales, 90 Shilling is smooth & deeply satisfying, with a crisp, clean Colorado taste. The name comes from the old Scottish method of naming a brewery's beer, based on original gravity and resulting tax rating.

On tap in a pint glass. Gorgeous copper color with a thick butter-hued head. The head had a really dense texture, similar to what one would expect from a nitrogen-charged tap. The mouthfeel was thick and velvety. The taste was nuanced with a range of flavors, heavy on a gentle malt. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at a wedding reception. Aroma is caramel malts, some citrus hops. Taste is malt-forward, sweet, but too much hop bitterness in the finish. Good overall, but does not stick to the confines of the style very well.

Pours a dark, reddish brown. Roasted malts, brown sugar on the nose. Start off with a bitter, hoppy flavor, then ends on notes of toffee, caramel, and brown sugar. Medium bodied, somewhat oily mouthfeel. An interesting take on the traditional style.

The pour was a clear dark copper with an average off white foamy head that left streaky lacing. The aroma was of a toasted light bready malts, mild grassy hops and an earthy yeast with notes of caramel, and toffee. The taste was malty with a mild caramel sweetness at first, but quickly became bitter sweet with an earthy and mildly spicy finish. Overall this was a brew that did not have much complexity. Although what it did have seemed to work well enough.

There is nothing overly powerful taste wise, it is well balanced with some notes of toffee. Gets better with every sip!

Draft at Jack Quinn’s. Pours clear copper with a thick, creamy beige head and decent lacing. Tastes like nutty malt, roasted grains, grapefruit hops, and scotch. Light/medium body and carbonation. Smells like nutty malt, roasted, scotch, and some grapefruit.

Light grain/malty nose. Nice subtle bitterness. Shinerish caramel middle. Refreshing finish

Bready with a little caramel from the mild malt like a traditional english/scotch ale. A little carbonation with a hint of bitterness from the hops. Never a big fan of the style but this is well done.

Aroma of malt, caramel, hops and kind of a metallic aroma. Taste of malt and bread and some caramel.
