3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance: clear amber orange, with a near white head that’s fluffy and frothy, leaving rich lacing rings. Aroma: strong aroma of sweet, chewy toffee, caramel, brown sugar, cherries in light syrup, and vanilla. Taste: as the aroma indicates, a little nutty, with fruit notes more prominent as it warms. Finish: lasting sweetness of brown sugar and toffee, with a bit of vanilla and wood to dry it just a tad. Notes: Really nice scotch ale. Sweet, but with a light enough palate that it was easy to drink. On draft at The Hoppy Monk in El Paso, Texas.

What a let down. Poured a medium garnet with a medium head. Faint nose and even more faint in the mouth. Boring.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from a 12oz brown bottle into a thistle glass, a clear deep reddish copper colour with thin but persistent off-white foam. Nice grainy and caramelly aroma. Same with the flavour plus slight malt sweetness balanced by the gentlest earthy and flowery hop bitterness, bready, nutty, slightly toasty, slightly chocolatey, slightly acidic. Light-medium body, average carbonation, extremely smooth and easy drinking. Complex and tasty. Probably as close as we can get to a fresh, year-round, widely available table-strength Scottish Ale or English Mild type. Exactly my kinda everyday drinker.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Dark Amber colour with a white head that clears quickly. Smells like toffee, caramel and forest fruits. Not as hop dominant as other amber ales. Taste is much the same as the aroma. Very refreshing and smooth.
