Richer than most amber ales, 90 Shilling is smooth & deeply satisfying, with a crisp, clean Colorado taste. The name comes from the old Scottish method of naming a brewery's beer, based on original gravity and resulting tax rating.

Bottle, pours cloudy golden. The nose is sweeter than the taste, nice malty and smoooth. Enjoyable beer!

Pre-pour thoughts. Cool bottle and labeling. Especially the bottle, with the neat neck.

Pours a copper/amber color. Barely any head, but nice and clingy. Not well filtered, lots of floatiees in there.

Aroma is floral and malty. Itís also a little piney. It smells bready and sweet. It smells really good.

Taste is well balanced. Itís pretty malt heavy, but itís slightly hoppy. Just enough hops to keep the malts from being too much. Itís slightly fruity. I taste pretty hefty toffee and caramel notes, maybe a little cocoa. Cocoa mind you, not chocolate. Finishes slightly hoppy bitter. Thereís a lot of flavor, but thereís nothing crazyily overdone.

Mouthfeel is very nice. Itís a very smooth. Itís also creamy. Itís a little dry, and also maybe a little oily. Pretty sessionable.

Overall, this is really good. Itís not as hard as a regular scottish ale. I guess we can call it Scottish Light. Quite flavorful, and drinkable. Well worth a try.

Malty but light malty, nice malt and toffee aroma. Pretty darn crisp and clean, a little light, but in the end good malty beer and very refreshing.

Amber body with an off-white head and a slight maroon tinge. Aroma is a little strong on the booze for a 5.3, but has some tasty roasted notes too. Flavor is a little bit softer with a sweet caramel body and some floral hops.

Amber in color, wimpy head. Aroma of tea leaves and mildly roasted malts. Taste was straight forward, malt heavy, medium bodied with tobacco notes. Easy, easy to drink. A session version of the style?

A light amber pour with a white head that dissipates quickly but lacings to the end of the glass. The aroma is malty with a subtle floral fragrance. The flavor is malt forward with caramel and citrus. The finish has a burnt bitterness and a subtle hop bite. Refreshing beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clean and lean Scottish. Clear garnet brown pour tan head. Taste of light roast and light malts. Finishes crisp for a malty Scottish. Seems more of a session of 60 shilling Nostradamus of an 80+

Bottle at a wedding reception. Aroma is caramel malts, some citrus hops. Taste is malt-forward, sweet, but too much hop bitterness in the finish. Good overall, but does not stick to the confines of the style very well.

Pours a dark, reddish brown. Roasted malts, brown sugar on the nose. Start off with a bitter, hoppy flavor, then ends on notes of toffee, caramel, and brown sugar. Medium bodied, somewhat oily mouthfeel. An interesting take on the traditional style.
