Thanks, Jeff! Interesting move, to double down on the vinous qualities that sometimes come with strong porters. And even more quirky to choose this particular grape. Reddish brown pour, deep and murky but without being mere soup. Light beige head, seems lively despite the apparent heavy depths. Nose is really inviting, with chocolate, yeast, and a pronounced nuttiness that goes well with the vinous notes. Full but not sludgy body, very well done base porter. Taste reveals some vanilla, mildest of coffee, deep lustrous chocolate and very nice, subtly integrated grape. Surprising and quite nice.

Tap at Muddy Pig. Reddish brown pour with a small spotty head. Vinous grape, slight wood, hint of chocolate, and spice. Wanted this to be better, though. Just okay.

3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 8/20
The aroma is musky. Grape skins, roasted malts, toast, with hints of dark pitted fruit. Pours an opaque brownish black with a robust, mostly diminishing khaki head and abundent lacing. The taste is bitter-sweet. Dark fruit, roasted malts, and grapes, with hints of vanilla with a vinous finish and aftertaste. Medium-full body with medium carbonation. Overall, a very interesting take on an Imperial Porter. I liked it and would drink it again. This is more of an evening sipper.

Share courtesy of Gription79. It poured up with a murky mahogany body supporting a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up crushed grape skin and then light blueberry mixed with earthy gravel notes. The taste is nice and rich and chewy with grapes and berry notes mixing with a slight red wine sensation. Into the finish it gets sort of mild earthy gravel road too. Interesting and a nice fruity sipper.

Bottle @ home. Pours black, nearly opaque, with a large, frothy and foamy tan head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is dark roasted malt, somewhat nutty, earthy grape must, nearly dirty with alcohol notes. Flavor is dark malt and lightly tart vinous notes, light hops, light bitterness, peppery alcohol, earthy and woody/starchy grape vines with an abrupt, dry finish. Medium body and moderate to heavy carbonation.

A steady pour into my Teku glass produces a four-finger thick, brown tinged, dark tan colored head. The beer is a concentrated brown color that shows an opaque, concentrated amber hue when held up to the light. The nose smells of toasted, lightly roasted malt backed by sweet fruit aromatic notes. Lots of toasted whole grain aromatics, rich raisin notes, sort of tannic, dark grape juice aromas, an amply nutty dark malt character, and then, as the beer warms the oak character becomes a bit more noticeable; the latter also accentuates the toasted and nutty notes found here, and there is also a soft woodiness and oak spice character.
The beer is quite sweet, which is surprising given how much simple sugars from the grapes are in here. Once you get past the sweetness there is an almost saltiness, and savory smokiness to this beer. The sweetness accentuates a red-grape-skin stained, sweet, dark grape juice flavor that is found up front. The middle sees more balancing malt character come into play with lightly roasted, amply toasted brown bread, roasted nutty notes, as well as a smokiness that is here somehow. The barrel aging accentuates the toasted malt character, provides a very light woody flavor, and has a hint of a spicy oak character in the finish. As the beer warms up it becomes a bit more balanced between the malt and the upfront sweetness. The fruit character is definitely raisin like, reminds me of a tannic, and dark red stained grape.
Not bad, but a little bit too sweet, though I do like how soft the oak is, but that it still adds so much character to this beer. The beer becomes a bit more balanced as it warms up, in fact this needs to be drunk on the warm side so that it doesn’t come off as overly sweet. My opinion of this beer certainly changed quite a bit once it warmed up, too sweet and unbalanced when cool (~50 degrees F), but once it warmed up a bit it became quite a bit better.
