3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark brown pour. Chocolate and coffee on the nose. A tartness reminiscent of some sour beers exists in the taste. Very nice, creamy mouthfeel. Ends on the same chocolate and coffee notes that it started on.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle, shared at game night. Dark brown, mahogany highlights, bubbly tan head that laces nicely. Aroma is very rustic, with features of musty basement cobwebs and red wine, rosary undertones. The palate opens dark and vinous, with charred malt and funky wood elements. There is a plum-skin tartness that edges toward sour, making this a very compelling beer. Terrific balance--- never too much of one thing, equal parts dark/winey/funky/sour. Pricey, but this beer is worth it IMO.

August 20th, 2013 - Amuste is an investment - a financial investment, but also in an investment in LIFE. It’s a brilliant beer, pushing boundaries like an artist, with stunning poise and balance. By the time I remembered to take a picture to chronicle my review, most of the beer was gone, leaving tendrils of lace and a small puddle of beer at the bottom of the glass. Luscious plum, char, tree bark and other heavy stout notes take up the nose, while the taste begins with a little booze and burn. This alcoholic haze lifts to reveal juniper and a surprising depth of hops notes, but balanced carefully. I know this is categorized as an Imperial/Strong Porter, but every other sip it expresses as a sweet, vinous IPA.

On tap at Fredfest. Pours near black with a thick tan head and a musty oak aroma. There is a full-bodied chocolate and dark molasses flavor with a dry oak finish and a hint of grapes.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
"I liked this a lot. Not really as an imperial porter, and not really as your average (sour) wine barreled beer, but because it was so balanced, and yet so unique. Very much red wine grapes in the nose & flavor. Slightly tart, but more sweet. But the roast is there too in equal measure. It’s weird, and a bit tingly, but they play off each other well. Nice different brew. Too steep to buy a bottle again, though..."

Draught keg from tap takeover at the Three Johns on 24 Aug. Rich flavours of deep chocolate and port but with an assured dryness, not cloying or sweet. Oaky & with dark berry fruits.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
2014-08-15. Hazy dark brown body, beige head. 3+ Aroma is fruity over roasty dark malt base. 7+ Flavour is similar, fruity grape character, dry roasty bitterness is an awkward contrast. Average bodied palate, good carbonation. Likely deserves a longer more contemplative visit than I gave it but ultimately I just found it okay today. Bottle at Campground Brewdown

August 7, 2014 - on tap at B&B. Dark pour with some head. Roasted malt and red wine aroma. Taste was consistent with aroma, but also had some nice oak/wood. Little bit of alcohol in the finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 mL bottle, thanks to Brett for sharing! Deep grape soda colored pour, small head. Nose and flavor are lovely, with a good combination of chocolate and light roast accented by sweet red wine and grape character, hints of oak and vanilla shining through as well. Nicely attenuated and not overly sweet. A little odd, but it works decently.
