Share courtesy of Gription79. It poured up with a murky mahogany body supporting a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up crushed grape skin and then light blueberry mixed with earthy gravel notes. The taste is nice and rich and chewy with grapes and berry notes mixing with a slight red wine sensation. Into the finish it gets sort of mild earthy gravel road too. Interesting and a nice fruity sipper.

"I liked this a lot. Not really as an imperial porter, and not really as your average (sour) wine barreled beer, but because it was so balanced, and yet so unique. Very much red wine grapes in the nose & flavor. Slightly tart, but more sweet. But the roast is there too in equal measure. It’s weird, and a bit tingly, but they play off each other well. Nice different brew. Too steep to buy a bottle again, though..."

Draught keg from tap takeover at the Three Johns on 24 Aug. Rich flavours of deep chocolate and port but with an assured dryness, not cloying or sweet. Oaky & with dark berry fruits.

2014-08-15. Hazy dark brown body, beige head. 3+ Aroma is fruity over roasty dark malt base. 7+ Flavour is similar, fruity grape character, dry roasty bitterness is an awkward contrast. Average bodied palate, good carbonation. Likely deserves a longer more contemplative visit than I gave it but ultimately I just found it okay today. Bottle at Campground Brewdown

August 7, 2014 - on tap at B&B. Dark pour with some head. Roasted malt and red wine aroma. Taste was consistent with aroma, but also had some nice oak/wood. Little bit of alcohol in the finish.

Bottle share at DLD 2014. Pour is dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma and flavor of dark chocolate, nuts, sweet grapes, caramel, and wood. Finish has a bit more wine characteristics.

750 mL bottle, thanks to Brett for sharing! Deep grape soda colored pour, small head. Nose and flavor are lovely, with a good combination of chocolate and light roast accented by sweet red wine and grape character, hints of oak and vanilla shining through as well. Nicely attenuated and not overly sweet. A little odd, but it works decently.

Bottle thanks to Rainer. Pours a dark brown with beige head. The aroma is oak, wine, and roast. Medium mouthfeel with sweet roast, oak, wine with nice boozy finish. Good.

Pours brown with tan head. Aroma is sweet malt, a little toast, and some tart cherry. Flavor is sweet, some roast, and fruit juice, light malt, and a little funk. Lightly bitter and dry finish.

Good head retention. Pours a nice deep opaque brown with really good creay tan head. Nice thick collar and swirls held until the very end. Pungent earthy wine-like aromas. Some nice sweet roasty malt character. Taste is the wine up front (dry, deep fruit, dark), grape juice right behind that but only for a second, and ends with a nice woody-ness. Great high carbonation and medium-thick body. I really dig this beer!

750 ml corked and caged bottle. Aroma is initially somewhat unpleasant-- cloying sweetness--but it starts to develop into something more interesting after a couple minutes; I get raisins, molasses, licorice, wood. Pours dark mahogany with a large beige head with great retention; has a foamy look that I know will translate to the palate. Taste is as described: strong porter mixed with grape juice. The cloying sweetness I noticed in the nose in the first couple of minutes after I popped the cork is not noticeable in flavor at all. It starts out vaguely sweet before nice bitterness, savoriness and tartness take over. The porter is nice and roasty, a bit chocolaty, the grapes are somewhat tart. Mouthfeel is foamy as predicted from the look of the head; I like a more finely carbonated beer, and this is the beer’s biggest flaw for me. Good brew, though, even with these quibbles.
