Sweet smokey nose. Palate is smokey with a fair amount of coffee and chocolate. Lots of alcohol burn on finish. Better available.

More chocolate than bourbon it’s very dark and tart. Better as it breathes but falls short of similar competitors.

On draft at World of Beer - Tempe. I believe this was from a keg of 2010. Pours dark brownish-black with a dark tan head. Sweet nose of bourbon, caramel, and toffee. Taste of mellow bourbon (though it’s still fairly hot) vanilla beans, and a heavy oak aftertaste. Slightly astringent. This is one of the rare barrel-aged imperial stouts that was much more enjoyable when fresh. I really hope Odell will brew it again someday (and perhaps figure out the infected bottle problem).

750mL from Zipps, um no. this is not good. Makers Mark bottles, but the base stout is no good, too much char and ash.. tobacco and leaves.. the bourbon is subdued but that brings out too much other flavors, super thin body too.. no thanks.

Bottle at Paul’s tasting. Pours deep brown with a big beige head. Medium bourbon notes, roasted malts, some light dark fruity notes, and chocolate. Good stuff.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 ben4321 (2982) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JAN 10, 2013
Location: Bottle at Paul’s Blind Impy Stout Tasting, 1/5/13
Aroma: The nose had some bourbon, vanilla, and wood, with chocolate and coffee notes
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a beige head and some drippy lace
Flavor: The taste is similar to the nose, a mix of malty sweetness and some boozy flavors
Palate: This one is fairly full bodied, with a smooth feel, and some alcohol burn
Overall Impression:
I thought this one was pretty tasty. Maybe the alcohol burn hurts it a bit, but it still works pretty well overall.

Nose of roasted malt, smoke, and light booze. Taste follows the nose. Very little vanilla and barrel coming through on this. A little sour and soy saucy. Something is not right. Many other superior options out there in this style.

750 ml brown bottle. Pours with a thick tan head and mild raisin and chocolate aromas. Medium body with a very smooth mouth-feel. Late alcohol warming. slight bourbon character.

Bottle shared by Darrell. Thanks man.
The beer is dark brown with an inch of khaki colored head. Ample lacing left on the tulip. The aroma brings some malt with a musty, yeast character. The scent is generally pretty weak. Unusual, though not off putting. While the beer is not bad, this is without question a beverage that has been invaded by wild bacteria. Light tartness and mild sourness with hints of roast. Sweet and sour cherries. Bourbon presence is secondary to wild yeast flavors. Not at all what one should expect from an imperial stout. If the style category was changed to American wild ale, this beer would make more sense. Overall, interesting, and worth a try, especially if you’re a fan of both stouts and sour ales.

Picked up a bottle of this based on someone’s recommendation, big mistake. Dark black color, a little head. Smells like alcohol, booze, a bit of stout and more booze. The taste had slight notes of grain and coffee but it was mostly alcohol, rubbing alcohol in fact. This was really poor quality considering the cost and I’ll be really cautious purchasing their 750’s in the future, probably just stick to the IPA and Lupulin.
