mreusch (460), Olathe, Kansas, USA May 18, 2008 12oz., bottled on 03/2006, with another thank you to John (jjpm74) for this great selection from the Christmas cheer trade forum box he sent my way! Pours a clear orange amber with a fizzy and quickly dissipating off-white head that settles into a thin ring and center whisp, no lacing. Aroma is dark fruits, toffee, caramel, and sweet malts. Flavor is a little more one dimensional, with sweet caramel malts and toffee. A bit thin bodied and middle of the road for the style. Thanks again John! sneagrams3 (1453), St. Louis, Missouri, USA May 11, 2008 Tasted 5/11/08. Apparently a 2005 vintage. Hazy orange golden honey hue. Slight layer of bone white head. Aromas of raisins and wood. Caramel and spices. Citrus and toffee. Big nose. Full bodied and with a nice tingling effervescence. Rather dry finish with a lot of citrus qualities. Peppery and sticky. Bitter hop finish. Piney dry hop palate. Moderate burn. Almost a touch bitter rye malts. Tangy citrus flavor. The bitter hops and the sweet malts have a nice juxtaposition on the palate. Rolls roughly but nicely. ratman197 (2360), Arvada, Colorado, USA Mar 6, 2008 Bottle 2003 vintage poured a clear mahogany with a small disapating amber head. Aromas of dates, fig, carmel, toffee, pepper and a hint of mocha. Palate was medium to full bodied smooth and warming. Flavors of carmel, toffee, dark fruit, pepper and light spice with a smooth warming lingering bittersweet finish. One of the best beers I’ve had from Odells but I’m sure the ageing helped. RSRIZZO (1027), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Nov 18, 2007 Has this beer on 1/13/1999. Color is a medium orange brown with average carbonation and head. Aroma has a lightly sweet malt scent. Taste smooth and lightly sweet. It starts off with a medium body that goes down smooth with a sweet malt feel. Finish is a some what rich sweet malt flavor with a light bitterness. It’s a little lighter than I like a Barley Wine to be. 5000 (2400), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA Jun 25, 2006 Bottle: Deep amber, moderate off-white foamy head, fairly nice lacing. Bright hop, low malt aroma with slight band-aid. Rich breadiness on the tongue, band-aid is not really noticeable. Lighter example of a Barley Wine, clean. Moderate body and mouthfeel. Tangy finish, bready, definitely a lighter example. No alcohol is noticed, but it seems very warming. Tiz okay. Thanks for sharing mattbob!
