A Golden Ale created by blending the final recipe with its own barrel aged pilot beers fermented with wild yeasts and lacto. Each individual barrel contributes a unique flavor from the wood chosen and the cultures resident to achieve the subtle complexities that develop(ed) over time. A beer which starts sweet, filling the mouth with fruit-like esters and mild spiciness, changing to a tart and lingering flavor reminiscent of apples and grapefruit living amidst an earthy, citrusy hop aroma. 42% aged in wine barrels 58% Ale

750 ml bottle shared by b3shine. Pours a slightly hazy orange amber color with a medium sized, creamy white head. The aroma has tart citrus and apple notes, wood, caramel, white grapes, acidic with a hint of alcohol. The flavor has some sweetness before the tart fruits come into play. Citrus, white grapes, apples, spicy notes, wood, caramel and mild acidity. This is an interesting beer.

750 ml bottle, exploding cork, ceiling strike, on the second twist of the cage. Gusher. Cloudy golden amber color, massive beige ice cream cone head. Aroma of well coordinated spice, dust, mild funk, brown bread. Taste is softly sour and slightly oily brown bread, earth, pumpernickel. Tasty.

Very nice bouquet. Super fluffy head...quite a lot of sediment. Aroma is maple syrup and apples. Yeasty flavor with some tarty fruit and finishes with heavy alcohol.

Pours a hazy golden orange with a foamy white head that left sticky lacing. Aroma of tropical fruits, pineapple, some barnyard funk and white grapes. Flavor of pineapple, oak, sugary malty notes, some barnyard character and light sourness.

Arrives from the tap with a light tan colored head that is fairly dense and about a ½-finger thick. The beer is a dark gold color that shows a lightly hazy, gold hue when held up to the light. The aroma has a light tartness to it, sort of cherry like, as well as with a solid toasted pale malt character to it that reminds me of crackers and crushed grain. As the beer warms, nice woody, spicy, oak notes become more noticeable and work well with the toasted malt character. It smells a bit like fermenting fruit somehow (though not the on-purpose kind).

Rich and creamy textured with a light tartness to it that lingers on in the finish. Chewy pale malt flavors provide a rustic white bread like flavor, as well as a toasted pale cracker like note. The light tartness brings out notes of pear, melon, and perhaps a touch of apple. There is a musky, fairly musty, funky, sort of rotting / fermenting fruit like flavor to this beer that is not quite off-putting. Woody flavors provide some spiciness and a bit of fresh cut plank, but meld with a mushroom like character and the funky phenolics that all provide the bite to this beer.

Not bad, but based on some peoples input, I was actually expecting a bit more from this; this actually is a touch less enjoyable than the 2011 version, which was merely just decent.

Bottle from Daknole! Pours deep gold with a nice pillow of bubbly white head. Aroma is slightly tart, heavy on the pineapple. Taste is the same. Not a puckering sour, but a nice dry bretty taste, sweet white grapes, and it all comes together into a distinct pineapple taste. A very distinct belgian spicy yeast. Very drinkable.

75cl bottle pours a hazy gold with some fluffy white head. Nose is nice and inviting, lightly woody, some dried citrus peel, grass, a little medicinal, white grapes, a little horsey. Flavor is the same, tart but not puckering, dusty, rustic, grassy, hay, dried lemon. Medium bodied, tart but refreshing finish. Well balanced, good barrel character.

Draft sample. Gold in colour with moderate carbonation. Aromas are of boozy honied whiskey, wood, and slightly caramelized sugar. Flavors are dominated by fruity Belgian yeast, cooking spices, and demerara sugar. Heavy bodied. Somewhat like a heavier, boozier, and wood influanced Duvel. Not a fan.

Thick and sweet ale with some funk and tartness. More of a saison than a sour, not my style.
