Available each winter from the first of November until it runs out, Isolation ale is amber in color, malty and strong. We consider it a traditional winter warmer, without the addition of fruits or spices.

12oz bottle poured into a Sam Adams glass. Purchased at Randallís Wine & Spirits in St. Louis, MO. The nose on OIA is subtle but I detect yellow raisins and malt. There is a very slight wet hay smell that reminds me of a saison. It pours a murky bronze with a nearly non-existant head, although the beer is quite cold and this could reduce the head size. Iím letting it warm up just a tad before tasting. The palate is not quite oily but silky. The alcohol adds a touch of tingle to the after taste. The carbonation is low but not too low. The flavor is malty, as expected, with just a tint of grass and a bit of mild wood. This beer would be a nice follow-up to an aggressive IPA as a counter balance. I listened to Fairport Convention and Nazareth while drinking this beer.

Clear reddish amber with a big foamy, stringy, cream colored head. Aroma of toasted and caramel malts with some grassy type hops. Tastes malty with a nice mild but noticeable bitterness. Medium bodied and somewhat dry.

Bottled. Pours an amber color with a beige white/orange head. Aroma is caramel, some English style malts, mild hop Aroma. Flavor is sweet caramel, hops, little bit of orange and lemon peel. Not bad. Nothing remarkable.

Caramelly, bready on the aroma. Flavor is more crusty bread, toasty, biscuity, mild herbaceous noble hop. Really nice, balanced winter warmer.

At LS Taps & Caps. Hazy amber with a little off-white head. Not a big aroma. The description says without fruit or spices. Seems to need something more. Just okay. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle - rusty red with a medium head. Has a medium dry, malty, toasty taste and is boozy. And it did seem a little spicy. Ok beer but not something Iíd seek out again.

Bottle. Pours a clear, lambent red-brown with a high, beige head. Nose is wood, spice, tea, and umami notes. Sweeter on the tongue than on the nose, with caramel, chocolate, black tea, and treacle in the forefront, followed by a tannic bitterness. Finish is long, a little warm, with more wood and a touch of vanilla. Nice to have a winter warmer thatís not pretending to be a cookie or a fruitcake.

Odellís Isolation Ale is a gorgeous beer to look at and a decent brew to taste. The color is a clear shade of copper with a snowy head. Aroma isnít big but it has a nice balance of bread-like malts and floral hops. Flavor is definitely malt-forward. Caramel comes through clearly with some subtle fruitiness in the background. Feel is smooth but not remarkable. While there are holiday brews I get more excited about, I would happily drink Isolation Ale while occupying a remote hotel, looking at the snow-capped Rocky mountains, venturing into Room 237, and developing a fascination with axes.
