3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
4th September 2009
Hazy amber beer. Small cream coloured head. Semi soft palate, just a tad dry. Light creamy malt blends very well with well behaved and slightly citrus hop. A little more zingy than the 5 Barrel. Seduces with it subtlety and deftness.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz. bottle from Chambers Liquor Mart. Best before April 9, 2015. Pours amber, a little on the lighter side of the style. Itís nice and clear with a bubbly white head. The aroma is crisp, grassy, sweet and balanced. Hops are more piney than anything. As I expected, this is very clean and devoid of any off flavors. The malt is a little sweeter than I thought, but not sticky like Fat Tire can get. Itís very enjoyable for 12 oz. worth. Multiple bottles may get a little sugary for my taste. Thereís a reasonably biscuity flavor with a suggestion of light honey. No assertive bitterness is noticed. The finish is quick and balanced. Itís not aggressive, but rather a smooth, sessionable amber ale. Pretty nice.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
This is one of those odd beers for classification. The first few sips establish a solid ale, but then it begins to sweeten on the tongue -- and this sweetness tinges the subsequent swallows.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
bottle from Hazelís beverage world. pours amber with a thin white head. leaves a little bit of lacing. not much on the nose. A bit of citrus on the tongue with a hint of malt on the finish. Boring but at least itís competently made.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Not a standout in style, which happens less than usual where Odell is concerned. Nutty malt base and light citruc hops. Just ok.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from the Bottle Shop in Lancaster. Pours amber with a foamy cream head. This is a pretty run of the mill beer, which is disappointing considering itís from a decent brewer. Thereís some caramel malt notes and crisp citrus from the hops. Nice but unspectacular.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from StarmoreBoss, shared with Button at Market Rasen races, yesterday. Biscuit sweet. Light caramel. Floral honey. Found this a bit me dimensional. Not my thing.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
Nose is caramel, honey, malt. Taste is caramel, honey, a little pear drop; mouthfeel is short. The mouthful is really, appealing silky and rich. Itís a very nice slightly too sweet amber ale.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Levity is one of those beers that would have impressed me a lot if Iíd had it a few years ago. Itís smooth and balanced. In fact, Iíd go so far as to say that this is an exemplary amber ale. Despite its stylistic purity, it just doesnít present anything unique. I couldnít get excited about Levity. That said, thereís nothing wrong with it. The nose is very malty. The Munich malt provides an inviting smell like that of a German lager and the Honey malt is true to its name. The taste is a little more complex but still rich and malty with biscuit and caramel tones. Hops become noticeable toward the finish with light citrus flavors. The mildly bitter and earthy finish reminded me of black tea. In all, Levity is a decent amber ale but itís nowhere close to being Odellís best beer.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a clear light amber with a thin frothy white head and some broken lace. The aroma is sweet resin hop, malt and honey.
