3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
4th September 2009
Hazy amber beer. Small cream coloured head. Semi soft palate, just a tad dry. Light creamy malt blends very well with well behaved and slightly citrus hop. A little more zingy than the 5 Barrel. Seduces with it subtlety and deftness.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Levity is one of those beers that would have impressed me a lot if I’d had it a few years ago. It’s smooth and balanced. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that this is an exemplary amber ale. Despite its stylistic purity, it just doesn’t present anything unique. I couldn’t get excited about Levity. That said, there’s nothing wrong with it. The nose is very malty. The Munich malt provides an inviting smell like that of a German lager and the Honey malt is true to its name. The taste is a little more complex but still rich and malty with biscuit and caramel tones. Hops become noticeable toward the finish with light citrus flavors. The mildly bitter and earthy finish reminded me of black tea. In all, Levity is a decent amber ale but it’s nowhere close to being Odell’s best beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a clear light amber with a thin frothy white head and some broken lace. The aroma is sweet resin hop, malt and honey. The flavour is medium bitter, light sweet, with a soft sweet toffee caramel, light hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 4/20
Pours a dark golden with a white head. This beer is fairly tasteless. Aroma is like a farmhouse ale but the taste I’d non-existent.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
A- Light fruit, yeasty, apricot, grains.
A- Golden orange color, hazy liquid, white head.
T- Slightly sweet, balanced, apricots, peaches, light fruits, subtle spices.
P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, mild finish.
O- Not as full as I thought it might be. Granted the description doesn’t lead you to believe it will be, I still had this expectation in my mind. This is a good amber ale but not an exceptional one by any means. Has noticeable sweetness and fruit notes to it, and is sort of crisp, but also a little on the thin side. While I have no complaints, I probably wouldn’t try to seek it out.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Too sweet for me. Crisp and light. I like everything about it other than the sweetness.
