4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
On draft at Whole Foods, Chandler, AZ.
Near black opaque body with a filmy beige head. Aromas of pine, chocolate, roast. Lovely balance. I’m not typically a of fan of black IPAs, but this is certainly noteworthy. Bitter chocolates and resinous hops. Silky mid palate finishing with some bitter chocolate and hop notes. Well done.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured a deep cola colour with a big, lively head. Not as hoppy as I would have thought and the alcohol is well hidden.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
"12 ouncer from a 4-pack. after Stone SSR and 15th AV, I don’t think any other black ipa hangs with this bad boy. had it before bringing in the chrostmas tree...and they smelled the same! well, maybe a little more roast in the beer, but you get the idea. the hops used blended expertly with the dark malt to create a rich, piney brew, with roasted barley, licorice, chocolate, and an overall feeling of joy towards fellow man in the background. Similar to Deschutes Hop in the Dark but bigger. DEElicious. Between a 4.3 and a 4.4! Tasted damn fresh too!"

Licorice, charred wood, ash and bitter chocolate round out the flavor profile. Sticky, with a heavy lingering bitterness. Solid. Tasting notes from 11/2011.

Bottle from Zipp’s Liquors. Dark chocolate nose, a bit phenolic, and lots of fumes. Medium dark translucent brown with a fine tan head. Light chocolate initial, heavy bittering, and in final the choco diminishes. Not much else. Medium-heavy body. Okay. A bit mild mannered for a double.
