3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark cloudy brown pour, huge head. Malty weak aroma. Rich mouthfeel. Initially dominated by roasted malt sweetness, finishes long and with a good malt and hops balance. Pleasant beer, would drink again.

750 ml. Deeper brown color with small head. Aroma is grapefruit and caramel, cherries and booze. Taste is sweet and has medium bitter finish with grapefruit and caramel and toast to go along. Kind of stale and funky tasting but overall a lot of good qualities.

UPDATED: JUN 20, 2010 Sampled January 2010
Forgotten time my ass, I live in AZ and here we never forget ;)
Absolutely, excessively carbonated, as a very soft pour nets me a finger or so of beer and almost six fingers worth of head in my 25cl tulip glass. The head is a tan color and it sits on top of a burnt amber colored beer and shows a brilliantly clear darkish amber color when held up to the light. The beer smells of crystal malt and American hops; grapefruit, a bit of sweet tea, bergamot, hints of lychee, and a solid tangelo note.
A touch viscous as it hits my tongue for the first time, the beer definitely has some sweetness to it as well. It finishes with a touch of astringency that seems like it might be roast grain derived, but I think is more likely from the ample hops. Flavors of grapefruit, tangelo and some hints of tropical fruit are buoyed by a solid malt character that provides notes of caramelized whole grain bread, soft brown sugar notes, an ample biscuit like maltiness and perhaps a hint of more toasted grain flavors. This is quite a bit more balanced between malt and hop than I was expecting; it is still more hop dominated than anything, but there is a lot of malt character here as well. The hop and malt character seem to compete more often than residing harmoniously together; though it is a friendly competition that ends more muddled than anything.
My second pour nets me almost three-fingers of beer, but at the expense of having the beer foam over the sides of my glass (luckily the sink was nearby). When drunk quickly after pouring the beer it is excessively foamy and the texture manages to accentuate some hot alcohol notes as well. This beer has some potential, and I really like the idea of Colorado grown hops, but the execution comes off a touch more lackluster than I was hoping. This is certainly by no means bad, in fact it is quite drinkable, it just needs a little work.

The Dan Journal #325. Tasted 1/23/10. 750ml cork and cage. Dark with a brown hue and ruby highlights. Clinging, lacing off-white head. Aromas of cocoa and cola. Citrus candy and fudge. Full bodied with sweet and toasty palate. Decently blended but still with quite a bit of burn. Flavors of dark dried fruit and a mild chocolate note. Toast and cocoa. Nice hop character, but it kinda takes a back seat to the malt profile. Very nice and I can only assume a little time in the bottle will make it better.

Thanks to Sara Mac for this onel. Aight nose. Some leafy hops on the nose with some kinda nast hops too with some malt backbone, but not much. Flavor is slightly better with a kind of woody aftertaste which is pretty pleasant. Overall seems like a subpar Arrogant Bastard. Not arrogant or bastardish enough to compare, but itís pleasant enough.

Tap at Falling Rock - man, am I glad I didnít dish out the 14 bucks for a bottle of this - this comes across as an overly-hopped version of a british barleywine - well, sort of - there is an oxidized character that is odd in a beer so young - the hops are simultaneously peppery and stale - for the most part, they generate an astringency, but fail to add the punchy bitterness you anticipate - overly sweet malt profile - some notes of fig, prune, and other overripe dark fruit on the end - but that astringency continues despite this sticky sweetness - a really poor effort from a brewery that I usually find to be underrated.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750ML. bottle poured into a stem glass at 50į. Color is a deep ruby with a touch of brown. Carbonation is good producing a big frothy head. Aroma jumps out with a big fresh hop scent of citrus and pine. It starts with a medium body that goes down with a rich creamy feel. Finish is lightly sweet with deep roasted malt that lets some toffee and fruit flavors come out with a port wine taste on the end, next the hops come on with an even citrus and bitterness. After taste is dry as the citrus gives way to a light bitterness and the roasted flavor lingers on. This is a very tasty and well balanced brew, reminds me a bit of Stones 11. If they made this all the time I would drink it all the time.

brown. mild oxidation in the nose - metal, plastic, rubber, all minor but noticeable. hop vibrancy is lacking, it seems stale and unpolished. malt texture is slightly rough and messy. hop flavors are surprisingly mild and subdued, in fact I donít really find anything in this beer that stands out, other than the brown malt (bread crust, molasses, vanilla). very disappointing.

Had a good IPA aroma first time and secongd time I had this beer. Third time was little more subduded on the nose. Donít remember much about body as was having it with a ratebeerian after MS. Bockhyhorsey retired to he eternal home. Good hoopy flavor that was good to the palate. Third bottle was little more thicker for some reason donít know why it changed from crisp IPA to a chewy barley wine. Well good stuff.
