Named for Myrcene, a component of essential oils in the hop flower, Myrcenary Double IPA is our tribute to those who revere the illustrious hop, and their unyielding exploit to craft hop forward beers. Brewed with a blend of hops containing the highest levels of Myrcene, this double IPA prevails with a tropical fruit-like flavor, a pungent floral aroma, and a clean getaway.

From notes. First reviewed 7/7/2011. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip. Mycenary pours a hazy golden orange color, with a small off-white frothy head. There is not much malt to speak of in the aroma, but there is a good amount of citrus and mango hops, though. Some lemon rind and grassiness in the hops as well. The sip starts out with a light sweetness followed by a full hop bill. Grapefruit, mango, and apricot provide the fruit flavor, with some pine and grass present as well. No real lingering bitterness. Oily hop residue, light creamy carbonation, and actually a little dry for a DIPA, all wrapped up in a medium body. I found this to be a good, although somewhat typical tropical DIPA.

12 oz bottle: Pours a bright orange/yellow with a nice white head and dubious CO2 release throughout. Aroma is complex with lightly caramel malt, citrus and floral hops and an earthy finish. Taste is hop forward with great malt balance, not too sweet, slightly bitter and dry on the finish. Slightly bubbly, alcohol masked well, and easy to drink Could be sessionable!?!?

bottle trade with papso. very slightly unclear golden, smooth white head. bitter hoppy, bready, malty aroma, loads of bitter hoppinness, but not as flowery as some, aroma indicates something pretty heavy.aroma also have some sweet fruity or ripe fruity notes, blending with the bitterness. flavor is flowery nectar, loads of sweet malts, and then loads of bitter hops, the malts and hops also resemble a US barley wine a bit, as it is this sweet and heavy, very sweet, very hoppy brew. If You need something very very solid, go for this one.

RSRIZZO (1899) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - FEB 29, 2012
On tap at Old Chicago Colorado Springs, poured into a snifter. Color is a hazy gold with good carbonation and a rocky head. Aroma is a spice hop scent with a bold citrus note. It has a bolder medium body with a rich mouth feel that gives a citrus bite on the end. Flavor seems to have a bit of malt up front with a little caramel, but this is crushed by a huge citrus, a peppery lemon zest and pine sap, then a mellow bitterness. In the after taste the pine seems to clod up and hang on the back of your tongue.

Guerde (1218) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - FEB 21, 2012
(bottle from bhensonb, thanks!) Pours a semi-hazy light gold color with a fairly thin white head and a solid amount of lacing. Aroma smells a lot like a barleywine, with plenty of sweet caramel, oxidation, booze soaked raisins, and some booze soaked pineapple. Not too much in the way of hops here, with just a suggestion of citrus peel and a light floral undertone. Taste possesses some iced tea component, with more clear flavors of slight darjeeling showing on the semi-astringent finish. Little hint of lemon zest here too. Further flavors of sugared prunes and caramel. Even though the aroma had some heat to it, the alcohol is very subdued in the flavor. There’s a glimmer of heat right before the finish gives way to bitterness, but that’s about it. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is borderline spritzy.

Botte, 9.3%. Refreshing hop aroma, caramelly with a hint of pine. Cloudy yellow colour. Small white head. The flavour is sweet with a good caramelly hop note like the aroma.
