Named for Myrcene, a component of essential oils in the hop flower, Myrcenary Double IPA is our tribute to those who revere the illustrious hop, and their unyielding exploit to craft hop forward beers. Brewed with a blend of hops containing the highest levels of Myrcene, this double IPA prevails with a tropical fruit-like flavor, a pungent floral aroma, and a clean getaway.

Had this last night at Lucky Pie in Louisville, CO. I donít remember specifics. Just that it will certainly keep you warm and had that perfect IPA sweetness/bitterness you look for. Great Beer!

Itís been a long day. Letís hope that this beer hits the spot. I had this when it was on tap at Old Chicago for the St. Patrickís mini tour. Odell has since then started distributing it in 4 packs. I jumped at the chance to taste it again when I found it on the shelf a few weeks ago. Pours a hazy golden color, with a small frothy head. The nose is an eruption of hop character. Orange citrus shines through, followed by pineapple, with resinous pine underneath. This is a hop headís wet dream. Citrusy pineapple hops start, and grassy malt sweetness finishes. Thereís a beautifully understated bitterness level thatís soft, velvety, and smooth. The malt profile has kind of a honey-almond quality. Itís just there to keep the hops in balance. I think it could stand to be a bit bigger, but Mycenary aims for quaffability, and in that respect it succeeds. Mouthfeel is medium and the carbonation level gets out of the way. For a beer that packs 9.3% ABV, this is dangerously drinkable, as the hop bitterness and solid malt profile hide the alcohol. Too often double IPAs come across as too harsh. Thatís not the case with this beer, as itís well rounded and quite enjoyable to drink (again, think quaffable), despite the monster levels of both bitterness and ABV. A very effective hop delivery vehicle.

Aroma:Tons and tons of citrus in the aroma, both grapefruit and orange. Appearance:Cloudy, golden in color, very little head that dissipates quickly. Taste:Amazing citrus flavor on this one. Sweet and well balanced. Nice bitterness too, but very pleasant flavor. On the backend, some maltyness makes itself known. Palate:Light to medium, good carbonation, high hop astringency. Overall:This a very tasty sweet IIPA full of sweetness.

[Bottle] Pours a clear coppery gold with a scant off white head. The beer is a bit too cold straight out of the fridge, but the initial aromas are big on pine resin, passion fruit, mango, papaya, some caramel, and candied orange. The flavor is well balanced with resinous and fruity hops, a fair malt backbone with some caramel, and a smooth bitterness. The mouthfeel is slightly oily, stemming a little from the low carbonation, but itís not distracting. The finish is long and bitter.

This beer seems to have many of the characteristics of Hopslam, although the finish is not as smooth. A poor manís hopslam is what I like to call it. Good beer. Typical centennial driven IIPA.

Bottle courtesy of daknole. Pours gold with a white head. Smells resiny with some underlying citrus hints. Tastes of resiny hops, peppery, some juicy citrus with a floral finish.

Gold color with a small head. Aroma of caramel and hay and a bit soapy. Strong vegetal and dank hop flavor. Moderate bitterness. No citrus or tropical fruit to speak of.

Tasted on 5/8/11 from a 12oz bottle purchased at Sun Devil. Pours clear and bright golden with just a light tint of orange and a thick, rocky white head that slowly recedes to rocky and uneven lacing, and leaves a good amount of residue along the inside of the glass. The nose is primarily resin hops, but there are notes of grass, flowers, and tropical fruit along with light caramel and bread malt aromas. The flavor is all kinds of hoppiness, beginning with more tropical fruits along with the light caramel and bread malt, moving to the more aggressive and bitter flavors with resin, grass, citrus peel, and a solid dose of bitterness, but the tropical fruits kind of remaining throughout the whole experience. The body is full with an oily texture, average carbonation, and a long bitter resin hops and tropical fruit finish.

Nice amber color with a white head. Has a nice fresh hop scent and taste. Has a very strong bitterness, rather drinkable though.

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear light copper, with a bone white lasting head that leaves good lacing. Aroma is light citrus, some sweet caramel malt, slight grass. Not bad, though not as hop forward as I would like. Taste is where this beer shines. A big slug of citrus (Orange), mango, apricots, and some nice pine resin melded in nicely. Fairly smooth, a tad thin, with a bit of grittyness from the hops. Overall, a very nice IIPA that could do with just a bit more aroma "pop"
