Fruity, citric and lightly sweet aroma, with toasted caramel malts, pineapple, mild grapefruit and pear and perhaps a touch of grape candy. Clear, attractive red color with a lasting, fine, uneven, off-white head and some nice lacing to match. Flavor profile is balanced a bit more towards the hoppy side, which is how I tend to prefer examples of this style, luckily, with suggestions of sweet, sugary, toffeeish malts, red apple, bubblegum, piney, earthy, citric hops and a moderate amount of drying bitterness for balance. Amply carbonated and a bit oily, with a medium body. Nice rendering of a decently hoppy American Red Ale, very drinkable. machfive55 (235), Columbia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 23, 2009 The appearance was amber with a red tint. Aroma was dominated by citrus and pine hop notes. The flavor was mostly hoppy with citrus notes, but low bitterness. The beer had good carbonation and body. This is a good amber ale with excellent hop aroma. Crafty07 (398), Florence, Kentucky, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 22, 2009 My second Odell brew and this one is spot on! An agressive hoppy amber with a good malt balance to help with the hops and helps to hide the stronger alcohol note. I’d try this again for sure! kp (8600), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 2/10 | 1/5 | 5/20 | Jul 15, 2009 Poured a beautiful Amber with a light, thin, cream head. The bouquet of hops is wonderful as it caresses the nose, and that is about where anything good stops. I came to the table expecting something equally as good as the Extra Special Red but I was quite disappointed. I got almost nothing but hop, very little malt.
I wish the ESR would come back. Chef Chad (102), Grand Junction, Colorado, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/20 | Jun 4, 2009 Nose was fruity with some hop present. Poured a Amber color with some white foamy head that lasted a bit. Medium body with a smooth finish and the carbonation was fine for the beer. I HATED THE FLAVOR. after loving the extra special red so much I was so disappointed that this is the beer that replaced it. It was malty but dull and I really did not get any good hoppiness out of it thegreenrooster (1853), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 22, 2009 Pour is a dark red with a large tan head. Aroma is of earthy malts and some oily hops. Flavor is some pine hops with some caramel malts and a touch of earthyness. Think of it as and IPA made with caramel malts. This one is a damn fine amber and one of the best i have ever tried. beernbourbon (321), chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 18, 2009 Bottle thanks to Crosling. Pour is a rich-looking, viscous amber color. Aroma is heavy hops with a nice malt backbone. Flavor is pleasant malt up front with a heavy hit of pine and citrus hops right behind it. Flavor is crisp with a bit of a sweet and soapy finish. Very surprised by this one, it’s great stuff!
