This time of year in the Rockies, one day can span all four seasons. Morning snow gives way to afternoon sun, sending fresh snowmelt into our rivers and into our mash tun. With a complex malt backbone dry hopped for notes of citrus and pine, it’s almost as surprising as the season itself.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep ruby color with a small head. Aroma is unmistakably hoppy. (If my eyes had been closed, I would’ve thought I was about to drink a pale ale.) Initial hop bite, but the caramel flavors of the malt aren’t lost here. The finish is a bit thin for my tastes, but overall, I do like what Odell has done with this beer. By showcasing the best qualities of a red ale—namely, the substantial malt—and adding enough hops to make it interesting, Odell has elevated a style that’s often considered too bland by many beer drinkers. Guess I’d better take advantage of this while I can, as this seasonal is only around until April, and then my search resumes for another red that’s as good as this.

Wonderfully balanced red/ipa with a very nice sweet and bureau malt character that takes a slight back seat to the abundantly fragrant and tasty citrus and piney hops. Great session brew."

Clear dark amber color with a modest off-white head that does persist and produces some decent lacing. The aroma is pine needles and citrus with a bready malt background. The taste is in the same vein - pine needles and grapefruit over a slightly sweet caramel malt, very nice balance. Medium bodied, smooth and dry at the finish. Overall tasty and pleasant drinking.

Strong resin and pine. Sweeter red taste than expected. Good beer overall, but needs more balance to get top ratings.
