4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Denver2012 (24) - - MAR 10, 2012
Pours a dark ruby with a thumbs width beige head. Nice lacing. Wow... what a wonderful wonderful aroma. Sweet and hoppy and incredibly balanced between the two. Nectarine, grapefruit, a little pine. I could just sit and sniff this all night I think. Flavor is just as good. The grapefruit and pine seem to hit you in the forefront but its balanced extremely well by the malt backbone which provides some delicious sweetness and breadiness. A nice silky mouthfeel with an appropriate level of activity from the carbonation. Medium bodied. I think I am having the same reaction to this as I did with Deschutes Red Chair, which has since become one of my favorite beers. I had this Red once before a couple years ago and did not enjoy anywhere close to how much I am enjoying it this time around. Odell with a grand slam on this one and think this just might have overtaken their IPA as my favorite beer from them. The only thing that blows about this beer is that its seasonal. And the name is rather unoriginal as well.

What a beautiful beer! Deliciously red, great lacy head, full body. Malty goodness with assertive hops. No hint of "watery, and syrupy sweet" as many reds can tend toward here at all. Right up there with Nosferatu as the best red I've had! Thanks Uncle Brian for the hook up!

12oz bottle. Resiny citrus hop aroma. Brownish ruby red color with slight head. Mild sweetness blends into a light caramel malt, all held together with a pleasant bitterness. Medium body, a touch oily, and just the right amount of carbonation with a crisp hoppy finish. Excellent compliment to the onset of spring (even though it snowed this morning).

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2009 Bottle. This just came out and I was eager to try it as I am a big fan of O’dell’s other beers. I was not disappointed. Really pretty red color with a pillowy finger and a half head. Pretty good lacing throughout. Nose is citrus and hop flowers, a little pine. Smooth mouthfeel with just the right amount of carbonation. Really nice hoppy flavor that fades to slightly sweet as the aftertaste fades. This is a severely good beer. Much closer to an IPA than an amber ale. I’ll have to try this side by side with their IPA. Definitely worth seeking out.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Nonic Imperial Pint.
Appearance: Rich reddish-amber with thin off-white head and light lacing.
Aroma: Tart grapefruit, mango and citrus are at the forefront. Smells like an IPA except the malts are more complex with caramel, biscuit and rye-like qualities.
Taste: Mostly dried out caramel malt backbone which is overridden by loads of citrusy American hops with strong grapefruit and orange. The finish is spicy, bitter and pine-like. Somewhat reminiscent of rye as well.
Palate: Moderately low carbonation, smooth and creamy body, dry finish. Could use either a tinge more carbonation or body - one or the other - but that is a very minor gripe.
Overall: Fantastic Non-Imperial Red Ale; actually the best I have had for the style. Highly recommended.

Pours a sexy amber with off-white head that is thick at first then recedes to a thin layer that remains for the pint. Nose has a very nice fruity component, perhaps passion fruit or at least a very mixed batch of fruit aromas. A generous toffee sweetness is welcomed onto the palate at first, with plenty of "juicy fruit" hoppiness in the balance. There’s a slight candied quality to this ale too. Finish is toffee sweet with lingering citrus. Very drinkable and quite delicious.

Beautiful deep, ruby red color. Tinges of deep purple, with a thin creamy off-white head. Smells of grassy, citurs, sprucy hops and deep caramel notes. Great mouthfeel with a beautiful, bitter, and lasting finish. Notes of chocolate, coffee, brown sugar, and bitter citrus. My standard for everything a red ale should be.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Stevesie (202) - - MAR 30, 2013
Single bottle. Pours a pretty dark red with a slight tan head. Lots of clinging bubbles and significant lacing. Fresh, clean aroma full of hops and a hint of citrus. Fresh and clean with a hint of malt toward the finish. Lacks the smoke or earthiness of most reds, making it dangerously easy to drink and highly refreshing. What all red ales should aspire to be.

Off the charts aroma of tangerines and clementines. Semi-sparkling nice clear red appearance with a quickly disappearing white head. Slick flavor, not overly sweet with deep hop resin. Mild caramel and toffee with hints of grass. Kind of similar to red seal but hoppier. Very nice. Thanks Brad!
