Inspired by a resurrected style from the Flemish region of Belgium, The Meddler Oud Bruin is a blend of several generations of brown ales that were barrel aged for over 18 months. Wild yeasts, Lactobacillus, and Brettanomyces meddle with the beer creating complexity and depth of flavor. Intricate, yet balanced, The Meddler has an 8.9% ABV.

Bottle. Nose of slight sourness, caramel maltiness, leather. Flavors follow similarly w/ more tartness than expected. Solid malt backbone w/ interesting vinous characteristics, good lacto creaminess & a good sour bite. Definitely going to get more of this!

Nice lactic Tannic berry aroma. Also sour wood aroma. Nuanced. Brown red with white brown head that imparts a slightly cool color. Slick nutty brown that quickly becomes Tannic and wine like turning to lactic sourness late.

~10 oz draft at Martin City Brewing Company. The pour is hazed brown with some ruby around the edges of the glass. The head is tan and lasting. Nice, thick coat of lace left behind as the head falls. The aroma is softly sour vinegar, nice full black cherry fruit, and light wood funk underneath that. The taste is soft acetic vinegar blended nicely with the natural black cherry fruit. The wood and funk is present in the long finish. The palate is medium to light bodied, soft natural carbonation, nice sour black cherry long finish. Nice.

Big thanks to Blake for sharing this last night. Dark brown color with a fluffy head. Big aroma hints of sour funk, vinegar and slight mustard seeds. Pretty damn sour flavor as well, funky and tart. A real gem in my eyes.

Tap at Soha. Pour is cloudy deep brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is sour cherry, wood notes, earthy notes, and faint spiced cream. Flavor is loaded with wood, caramel malt, light spice, an odd dill flavor and a bitterness on the back of the tongue. Full flavor. Complex. Interesting.

On tap poured dark brown w/ a creamy tan head fully diminishing. Mild aroma of dark cocoa, brett funk, toast, vanilla and dark fruit. Full body, oily texture and soft carbonation. Flavor is a light sweetness and the sour finish with a sensation of an unlit cigar on the tongue. A balanced sour.

October 30, 2012 on tap at 33 wine. Seemed to be a reddish brown pour but it was dark in the bar. Nice amount of head and lacing. Woody and a fruity funk maybe cherry in the aroma. Taste was consistent with aroma but the sour was not overpowering and the finish was dry with maybe a hint of bitterness.
