COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by a resurrected style from the Flemish region of Belgium, The Meddler Oud Bruin is a blend of several generations of brown ales that were barrel aged for over 18 months. Wild yeasts, Lactobacillus, and Brettanomyces meddle with the beer creating complexity and depth of flavor. Intricate, yet balanced, The Meddler has an 8.9% ABV.

22 ounce bottle divided among 5. Thanks goes to NKS for getting this one to Chicago. I wasnít expecting it to be such a big and sour ale. There was a punchy level of carbonation that helped it deliver all that tartness. Much darker too - it has a dark red-brown hue with a tan layer of foam that didnít stick around long. The tart and sour aspects gave way to some nice woodsy flavors as things tapered down after a few good seconds of mouth swirling. I like how it wasnít very sweet, it had an aged and dry character for the style, and didnít remind me of pie or candied cider, as you typically find with sours.

Thanks, Jeff! Nice vigorous pour, reddish-brown with a fairly bright countenance. Nose is fairly nice, a dose of tart cherry that leads things off, nice mellow brown beneath and plenty of barrel character. Mouthfeel is nice, balanced with appropriate carbonation, and moderately acetic. More complexity emerges to taste, with plenty of tannins and wild yeasts coming through along with the aforementioned notes. Good one, sure to get better with age.

Odell continues to impress me. Great balsamic vinegar, tart cherries, wet raw wood, leather, and tobacco with a druity tart finish. Tons of flavors and really blends well.

Appearance: Pours an amber brown with a thick off white cap.

Aroma: Fresh bread, bulk foods area at wholefoods with grain and seed, carob, raisin bread.

Taste: Red wine tartness, chocolate malt, subtle spicy hop. Sturdy barrel notes. Finishes tangy.

Mouthfeel: Lively active carbonation.

Overall: Very tasty, and quite unique compared to other sour reds. Not super sour but still funky and tart.

[5099-20130202] Bottle. Chemical floors and smooth wooden floral malt aroma. Murky, amber brown body with a medium-lasting creamy off-white head. Sour floral toasted malt flavour. Medium body. Delicious sour yeast balance. (7/4/8/4/16) 3.9

Dark reddish brown in color, thin tan head. Super Flemish flavors and aroma. Love the sour on this beer and the finish. Very complex beer with a great additions of yeasts.

Pours a deep umber with touches of ruby color and a finger of eggshell foam. The nose is roasted malt, sour cherry, acetic vinegar and a touch of woody funk. The palate follows with a focused palate that is true to style with nice tart cranberry and cherry mingling with brown nut like malt structure. Dry finish that lingers of wood, vanilla and vinous grapes. Thanks adnielsen !

750mL thanks to the RB crew at my going away tasting. Pours muddy brown. Weak tan foam. Nose is salty, musty, cranberry, mild cocoa. Taste is salty, dusty, sour cranberry. Lactic body, mild acetic heat. Quite nice. A bit seltzer and thin in the finish.
