COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by a resurrected style from the Flemish region of Belgium, The Meddler Oud Bruin is a blend of several generations of brown ales that were barrel aged for over 18 months. Wild yeasts, Lactobacillus, and Brettanomyces meddle with the beer creating complexity and depth of flavor. Intricate, yet balanced, The Meddler has an 8.9% ABV.

A decent one. Carmally and stronger than the norm. Carmal up front and a nice sourness on the back end.

Not at all like the Oud Bruins Iíve had before, but better than all of them. This beers most prominent characteristic is its sourness, but this isnít a one trick pony. Malty and dark with a balancing brown sugar sweetness.

Bottle shared by bhensonb. Pours cola with a thin but attractive beige head and a sour fruit aroma. There is a very brown flavor that is a bit more hearty than most of the oud bruins, but there is a tasty subtle sourness that seems quite authentic and a pleasant oaky finish.

Bomber from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours cola color with a slight beige head. Sturdy sour aroma. Med body. Flavor is woody, winey and sour. Maybe a little hint of chocolate. Finishes very, very laid back and tasty.

750 ml. bottle- Pours a very hazy dark brown to red with a light tan two finger head that slowly reduces. Aroma is tart and funky, the kind of funk I have been looking for all my life! I donít even know what that means, but this is good, aromas of dark fruits like plums and cherries. The taste is dark fruits too, cherry, plum, figs, moderately tart, almost overripe fruits though. Dig the complexity, the Flemish tribute, have had better, but this is definitely the best of the night, maybe even the week!

(750ml bottle) ruddy red orange, lasting fine tan head. Nose of cranberry, raisin, funky, complex. Taste is incredible. Cranberry, raisin, rich and lightly tart, so balanced and complex, like a sour fruited quad. Maybe my top sour Iíve had in some time.

On draft at Odell. Pours a hazy orange-brown with an off-white head. Nose is malt, vinegar, red wine, tart fruit, and some mild brett character. Flavor follows nicely with malt, some vinegar, balsamic, some tart fruit, and a nice heap of red wine vinous character. Medium to full in body for the style and a nice melding of these flavors to create this beast.

750ml Bottle. The pour was a plum brown with a large (2-3 finger) tan creamy head that had excellent retention, receding very slowly down to a puddled cap with a large collar and fantastic sheets of sticky lacing that engulfed the entire glass. The aroma was sweetly tart of a bold Brett yeast and a mild sweet grain malt along with notes of chocolate, dark fruit (plums and black cherry), vanilla and a slight woody scent. The taste was sweet and acidic with a nice malty feel and a note of dark fruit from the get go, maturing into a rather sour funky yeasty taste with a mild woody presence towards the end. The flavor lasted a decent duration proceeding the swallow, with a sour fruitiness and a slight funkiness left behind. Mouthfeel was medium in body with a slightly dry texture and a mild carbonation. Overall this was a really fantastic tasting sour brown, which had no flavor overpowering any other. Just a nice mix of fruit and funky tartness, which blended together so well that it created this exquisite tasting brew. I will be getting more of this one, I assure you...

Draft at Angelís Trumpet. Pours a deep, mostly clear amber color with a finger of khaki head that didnít last, just settled into a ring. Aroma of berry fruits, bretty fuink, caramel, a good deal of vanilla, brown sugar, oak, and a bit of a nutty, earthy note. The flavor hit the same notes, with equal amounts of vanilla sweetness and fruity sourness. Medium-bodied, with medium carbonation and a sweet and sour mouthfeel. Not overwhelming on either front, and I wouldnít call it balanced. Just a lot going on, particularly in the high amount of vanilla. Glad I got to try this on draft because no doubt itís an expensive bottle.

Bottle pour from Daniel, Thanks! Hazy brown pour, with a light brown head that lasts with nice lacing. Aroma is wood, light lactic sour, light acetic, berries, some caramel malt. Taste is dark fruit, raisins, tobacco and leather heavy. Nice moderate sour finish. Nice beer.
