COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Doug Odell’s admiration for the British brewing culture has led him across the pond - a lot. In 2008, Doug landed at Thornbridge Brewery and in the company of kindred brewing spirits. This visit led to a collaboration brew at Thornbridge in 2010. Fast forward to 2012 to find the two breweries at it again, this time at Odell Brewing. Pond Hopper Double Extra Pale Ale is the love child of this international brewmance. Brewed with English malts and American hops, Pond Hopper brings together the best ingredients each country has to offer, balancing a subtle sweet malt character with hints of mango and peach hop flavor. It pours a rich golden color with citrus and ripe melon essence in the nose. No matter which side of the pond you’re on, here’s to good beer and good friends. Cheers.

Bottle... Poured golden, pale yellow with a thick, fizzy white head. Earthy, mildly resinous hops on the nose. Drying yeast esters and other light fruits. Like tropical fruits, citrus, and a hint of honey sweetness with added bready malts for balance. Clean, and easy drinking with hardly any evidence of the higher abv.

Pours a clear golden amber with a tall white head. Nice aroma of pine, herbal notes, and floral hops. A sweet bread and toffee maltiness. Mild to moderate citrus peel. The flavor is a bit on the sweet side. Toffee, toasted bread, and light caramel. Some moderate fruitiness and a fair amount of floral, pine, and herbal hop flavors. Lightly bitter on the finish. Quite high on the carbonation.

Bottle at Craig’s. Pours a dark golden colour with a fair white head. A lovely hoppy aroma of pineapple, honey dew and watermelon, caramel and alcohol. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Decent bitterness with well balanced alcohol. Lingering melon characters. Lovely!

Has a nice pine scent with some citrus and orange peel like scent. Taste is a strong grapefruit with a bitter pine. Had it back to back with Lagunitas Hop Stoopid which was a bit cleaner, still a great beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle 750ml. corked.

Unclear medium orange colour with a large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, orange - citrus, riped fruit - orange, citrus. Aroma is like a hoppy BW. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, dry, orange, fresh. Body is medium, texture is oily and sticky, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20120806]

75cl bottle from GBBF and drunk at home. Quite expensive I think like in the £14 a bottle area. Hazy orange gold colour with thick white head. Ended up having to decant it into 3 glasses to get rid of some of the carbonation. Lots and lots of floral hops and grapefruit jump out of the glass at you. Getting the carbonation out really helps let more of the flavour come through. It’s smooth and light and agile. Some booze is there, but it’s not overly sweet. Goes really well with Pont l’Eveque cheese from Normandy. Sharp tangerine flavours. Good bitterness on finish. I think it is a pretty good beer. Bit too much booze maybe. I do like the fruit and the hops though. Yep, the hops are really quite awesome.
