Doug Odell’s admiration for the British brewing culture has led him across the pond - a lot. In 2008, Doug landed at Thornbridge Brewery and in the company of kindred brewing spirits. This visit led to a collaboration brew at Thornbridge in 2010. Fast forward to 2012 to find the two breweries at it again, this time at Odell Brewing. Pond Hopper Double Extra Pale Ale is the love child of this international brewmance. Brewed with English malts and American hops, Pond Hopper brings together the best ingredients each country has to offer, balancing a subtle sweet malt character with hints of mango and peach hop flavor. It pours a rich golden color with citrus and ripe melon essence in the nose. No matter which side of the pond you’re on, here’s to good beer and good friends. Cheers.

Sampled at Savor...did not like it at all. Big and heavy, hops did not come though at all, it was a malt bomb that was way heavy. I can’t imagine that they brought a bad batch to SAVOR, or kept serving it. So, I did not like it.

Bottle from Rare Beer Club:pours cloudy orange, reasonable off white head that sticks on the edge as a ridge. Nose is earth, pine, sweet malts. More of the same on the palate. Sweet malts, then herbal, spicy hop bitterness on the dry finish. Lovely. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750 ml bottle poured a hazy gold with a small lasting ivory head. Aromas of straw, citrus, eartyhiness and light yeast. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of straw, earthiness, yeast and light citrus with a smooth dry lingering earthy finish.

Bottle - 750mL corked and caged. Amber with a tall, foamy white head that dissipates within minutes. Aroma is citrus fruit, pine, tropical fruit notes, peach and sweet malt notes. Taste is big citrus, pine resins, tropical fruit, soft melon, peach, light apricot, sweet malt and soft caramel. Body is medium with a strong, bubbly carbonation. Ends with more peach, citrus oils, pine, apricot, tropical fruit, light melon, caramel, floral notes and soft caramel. Touch of alcohol warmth as well, towards the end.

@2012 Small Batch Fest. Clear dark golden with a thin white head. Dank hoppy aroma with some musty fruity hop tones, like grapefruit, mango pine, and some pear. Flavor is a little more malty with some caramel sweetness, an some fruitiness like some peach and apricot hoppiness, with a little floral bitterness and blonde malts. Floral hops and some pine on the finish.

Tap @ Odell Small Batch Fest 2012. A bit hazy, orangish appearance with an off white head. Fairly piney, somewhat orange citrusy, lightly toasty aroma. Kick ass, piney, somewhat bitter, grapefruit/orange citrusy hoppy flavor. Easy to drink.
