COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The barrel aging process is a labor intensive endeavour where beer is matured in wood barrels. As the beer ages, the wood imparts unique and complex flavors. The Odell Brewers selected new American Oak barrels for their first offering. The 750ml bottles will be hand-corked, and each bottle will be signed and numbered. After the Oak Aged Ale is bottled, the label and recipe will be retired.

750ml bottle. Pours cloudy, dark caramelly brown with a huge off white head, good lace. Smells sweet of caramel and vanilla with a good bit of wood character and some alcohol. Tastes sweet and caramelly malty with lots of sweet wood. Quite a bit of fruit as well, dark and ripe sweet. Very malty. Full body, over carbonated in general which ends up being pretty distracting from the beer in general.

Traded for this one a couple years ago it seems. A: Pours a brownish hue with a nice tanish white head. Nice retention and some lace. S: Aromas of caramel and brown sugar. Light dark fruit notes with a nice fresh cut oak. T: Nice caramel and brown sugar sweetness. Hints of cherry and more mild dark fruits. Nice oak, vanilla, and light booze from the barrel. M: Fairly full in body, smooth, nice.

750ml bottle - number 44 dated 8/15/08. Pours a hazy dark amber with a huge fizzy big bubbled off white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is a little subdued - sweet caramel and molasses, some fruit (apples and raisin), wood, and alcohol.

The flavor is sweet caramel, molasses, vanilla, and a little fruitiness with some grassy hops and alcohol in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with sharp carbonation that mellows as it sits.

Overall, an interesting outing from Odell. It’s a bit pricey ($25) and a bit one dimensional with sweet caramel and wood.

bottle shared at July A Tasting. Pours a muddy brown with a tan head. Nose is of oak, vanilla and bourbon. Taste is same as aroma with oak and bourbon prominent and vanilla noticeable as well. Mouthfeel is creamy with carbonation and alcohol noticeable.

Dark amber. Very dynamic. No lacing. Not sure what to think of this. Interesting, but confusing.

Bottle from Jimbo. Big, dark amber pour. Lots of wood on the nose. Flavor is oak, caramel, vanilla and brown sugar. Some fairly strong heat, but the overall smoothness of the beer tends to mellow things out.

Bottle: Poured a reddish color with a nice white head. The aroma was dark fruits, vanilla, oak and malt. The flavor was smooth, with oak, vanilla, nuts, beets, raisins and a finish with a nice dry aftertaste from the oak. Overall, an excellent beer. I think Old Ales are climbing the charts in my book.
