3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Thorpe429 (4844) - , Illinois, USA - APR 13, 2011
Reviewed from notes.
Pours a moderate amber-crimson color with a bit of a white head. Nose brings forward some light oak as well as some caramel, dark fruits, and a bit of vanilla. The taste is mostly oak with some mild oak and a bit of dark fruits and sweetness. Moderate feel with a bit of alcohol. Drinks alright, but isn’t all that flavorful and I’m not sure the base beer--whatever it was--really benefited too much from the oak aging.

750ml bottle from November 2009. Pours a hazy brown with a nice three inch head that lasts a while. Taste is of raisin, caramel, malt, spice, wood, fruit, pine, resin, some hops and warming alcohol. Has a nice sweet and spice aftertaste, that leaves me wanting more. Similar, though sweet fruit aroma. Has a nice full, smooth body that coats the mouth. Is too easy to drink considering it has 11% alcohol. Well worth getting again.

Hazy amber pour, off-white head. Sweet malt, caramel, oak, piney hops, and a little bit of fruit. Nice beer, but overall not super interesting.
