Odell Woodcut No. 3 is artfully combined Crystal, Cara, and Munich malts to create a pleasant sweetness and an appealing red color. Hints of caramel, raisin, and toasted almonds are balanced by delicate hop flavors, and the beer’s distinct oak aroma enhances the finish. Woodcut No. 3 is a perfect pairing for the traditional Thanksgiving dinner.

A: The pour is, as the name would imply, a reddish amber color with a couple finger’s worth of slightly off-white head. S: The nose is sweet and caramelly from the base beer with some toffee and dark fruits. The oak is still quite present and provides some sweet vanilla and just an overall woodiness. T: Not quite as much of a "chewing on oak chips" feeling as I remember. Nice and sweet with caramel, toffee, vanilla, and brown sugar as well as some subtle dark fruit notes and a sort of spicy oak flavor. M: The body is quite full and the carbonation is medium, but certainly lively. D: You do need to enjoy the oak to like this beer, but luckily, I do. This beer has mellowed nicely and I would not mind trying it again.

750 c&c from Internet Wines & Spirits, aka Randy’s I think. Bottle 3139; Nov. 2009. Slight puff on cork pull. Pours hazy ruddy dark amber with a creamy beige head. Aroma of darkish fruits with some oaky vinosity. Full bodied. It has some malt/dark fruit sweet. Raisins are in it. There’s an oaky astringency with some bitter that could be oak or hop or both. Starts sweetish and descends towards dry as the fruit drains away. There is not a trace of heat, and the body perseveres. It’s coming across as pleasantly mellow, and if there is slight oxidation, the oak seems to be covering that. Interesting drink.
