A Quadruple Ale brewed with a blend of Belgian ale yeast and our house ale yeast. Woodcut No. 5 presents a rich, spicy, dried fruit essence and a deep auburn color. Aggressive vanilla notes from the new American oak compliments the Special B malt with hints of cherry, raison and plumb on the palate. Each Woodcut offering is truly limited edition beer with a unique flavor that comes from select hops, fine malted barley, and our brewers’ careful aging process. Enjoy.

Deep burnt orange pour with a small head. Aroma of wood, light ripe fruit, yeast and light sweet malt. Sweet fruity flavor. Pretty good.

(bottle shared by Dylan). Pours a cloudy amber with off-white head. Bottle was sufficiently carbonated. Aroma has some pit fruit, band-aid and loads of wood. Taste is sweet, but medicinal and has that awful band-aid quality. Mediud bodied with an oily texture. Dry finish. The band-aid and booziness of this beer just kill it. Clearly a bad bottle, but at $25/bottle, I’m not going out of my way to re-rate this.

Botella. Sweet malty yeasty dark fruity aroma. Good mouthfeel. Flavour is sweet with toasted caramel and malt, dark fruit, bit yeasty like, some wood and finishing sweet malty and alco like. Pleasant.

750ml bottle corked and caged (shared with BeerandBlues2). Color is a deep amber with very low carbonation and almost no head. Aroma is big on bourbon and oak with a vanilla back note. It has a medium body with a rich mouth feel that goes down somewhat crisp. Flavor comes in with caramel that is slightly roasted then a little bourbon shows and vanilla. The after taste is a big alcohol punch that overwhelms the flavor. Overall its just not as good as I was expecting, the alcohol overpowers it in the end. Big disappointment for a $25 bottle and not as good as the other Woodcut brews.

Bottle 750ml. @ The Danish Summer Gathering, TFODRBSG11.

Unclear medium amber colour with a small, fizzy and open, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, barred aged, wood, alcohol, licorce candy (lakrids konfekt) notes. Flavour is heavy sweet and light bitter with a long duration, ripped fruit, raisin, plum, alcohol, caramel, barrel, buzzy. Body is medium, texture is creamy, carbonation is soft to flat, finish feel is light moderate alcoholic. [20110820]

Bottle, 75cl, corked. Almost see-through, copper in color and almost headless. Quite alcoholic on the nose, with dried fruits, caramel and sugar. It’s very warming on the palate, with a nice bitterness and a bit too much sugary sweetness. Dried fruits, dark plum notes and dark sugars. Lasting finish with lots of warmth. Overall, quite nice, but it’s too warming and sugary. 110820

Hazy amber with a small white head. Aroma of caramel, malt, fruit, oak and green leaves. Sweet caramel flavour with strong oak and tannin notes. A bit one dimensional and in-your-face
