4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
750ml caged and corked bottle for $23.14.
A clear deep amber, it comes with a +2 finger head of foam and looks to leave some nice lacing behind.
It has a spicy malty aroma. A good dose of pepper is there as well as a tropical fruit smell. In fact, the latter most now dominates. Iím liking what Iím smelling.
Wow, they were not kidding when they put this on the label...mango, papaya, and guava. Itís hitting my taste buds hard. I also get the pepper and an obvious flavour of vanilla and the flavour you get from oak aging. Itís soooo different yet so good.
Full bodied with mild carbonation and not all that much heat, the mouthfeel and drinkability are pretty darned good.
This *may* be my new favourite of the Woodcut series and Iíll probably get another one or 2.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 c&c from Wine and Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours clear orange/amber with a slight beige head. Aroma is tropical fruit. Not strong tho. Med _ body. Flavor is woody, tropical and light stone fruits, toffee, and it coalesces into oaky astringency. Pretty tasty.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle shared by bhensonb. Pours orange copper with a small beige head and a fruit and alcohol aroma. There is a hearty toffee flavor enhanced with lots of oak and an unusual hoppy finish, apparently the Mosaic influence. Very nice.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle:   Muddy in color, moderate to large foamy sandy head, nice lacing.   Syrupy sweet nose, lots of oak,
some dank candied citrus peel.   Not as sweet on the tongue, oakish, dank citrus peel and pith.   Could stand to be
sweeter, more candied to balance the slight dryness of this one.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Could stand
to be brighter overall.   The oak aging provides a nice background, but the maltiness with the candied citrus peel
needs to be a bit more bright.   Strong, yet a bit dull at times.   Decent beer tho.   Hides the 10% ABV well!

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
2nd February 2013
Cloudy brown beer, very big cream coloured head. Palate is airy and mildly crisp. Fresh vanilla wood. medium sweet. Mild malt cream and minerals. Hops are very nice - lime and pine with lesser peach, apricot and other tropical fruits. Mild fresh hop sting and the hops are turn a little grassy. Finishes crispy. The abv is very well hidden in this sumptuous treat of an oak aged beer. Gorgeous.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thanks, Peter, for all of the woodcuts! Aroma is tropical fruit, walnut, fresh cut oak, and caramel malts. Flavor matches up pretty well with more oak dominating the flavor. Orange pour, big head.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle 04686, Date of August 2012; Sampled June 2013
A steady pour into my teku glass produces a four finger thick, light tan colored head that falls with a varied surface and leaves some light lacing on the sides of my glass that gets thicker as I go through subsequent pours. The beer is a rich amber color that shows an absolutely brilliantly clear, rust tinged, gem-like amber hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of hoppy tropical fruit, Meyer lemon zest, some peppery spice character, and an earthy, woodiness towards the finish. The hops character is dominant here, but there is a supporting toasted / caramelized maltiness (only just noticeable), as well as a spice accentuating, and herbal inducing oak woodiness to the nose as well. The oak is sort of subtle overlay to the hop character.
Up front there is lots of notes of tangelo, and lychee, but the finish too has linger hop character with additional guava notes as well as a firm bitterness, an anchoring toasted / softly-caramelized malt character, and a toasted woodiness that gets a touch spicy in the long finish. The hop character is quite juicy and fragrantly tasty. The oak character is quite well integrated with the hop character, it adds a woody, spicy base character here, and really just integrates well with the fruity hop notes; there is also a softer butterscotch character that boosts, accentuates, and integrates quite well with the tropical fruit hop character. The body is rich, viscous, with an ample heft to it; definitely on the chewy side of the spectrum, but I donít get the feeling that it is cloying.
This is quite a nice beer, part of that is that this is quite a bit more tasty and hoppy than I was expecting. The wood character really is quite well integrated with the dominant hop character, and still allows the juicy hop-fruit character to come through. A fantastic hoppy Barleywine with a supporting oak character. Despite my prior ratings, this is probably my favorite of the series so far.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle @ a recent bottle share... Cloudy orange-ish with an easy forming eggy head. This was one of the highlights of the tasting. Floral and perfumey, the Mosaic hops shined here. Nice bready malt balance, and not too sweet. Not too bitter either. Super balanced, nice drinking beer. Light tropical fruits and some yeast esters came through too.
