COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oak aged IPA
Odell IPA that is aged in 2nd and 3rd use Woodcut barrels.

Our Silver medal winner at the 2012 World Beer Cup placed in oak barrel. The oak flavors give the IPA even more complexity with vanilla flavors to go along with the citrus hop character.

Deep amber coloured body with a bit of a copper glow and a thin off-white head. Aroma of deep piney hops coupled with some pungent malt notes and a lot of oak and herbal and grassy scents. Medium-bodied; Strong dry oaky flavours at first go well and show the beer nicely with the hops playing second fiddle and some minor sweetness at the very end. Aftertaste shows well with the oak and dryness really coming through and the malt noticeable at the very end. Overall, a nice IPA that was great to try, and while I didnít know how rare it was, I wish I had it again to sample it a second time. I sampled this pint on draught at Old Mill in Downtown Littleton, Colorado on 07-June-2014 with haddon90.

On tap at World of Beer - Tempe during an Odell event. Pours a hazy golden with a foamy head. A friend once described this beerís aroma as the smell of walking through an orange grove right after a rainstorm; thatís a very apt description. The only other thing I detected in the nose was a bit of lemon zest (and not much hops at all). Tasty blend of woody oak, sweet oranges, some vanilla, and citrusy hops with a grassy tone, though the hops are a bit muted after the barrel-aging. Great beer; Iíd drink it on a regular basis if it was readily available in Arizona.

Hazy orange pour with citrusy, oaky, and some vanilla. Barrel with some booziness present. Nice and tasty!

The beer pours from the tap with a huge, fluffy, textured, pale tan colored head that leaves lots of thick lacing on the sides of my glass. The beer is a hazy, amber-copper color. This has a super mix of fruit and huge oak; the combination makes me thing of a vinous, white wine character some how. Big orange notes come through much bigger than I have ever sensed in a hoppy beer before; it almost smells like a glass of fresh orange juice, almost. Spicy, plank like wood notes, almost a green woodiness that must be caused by the wood / hop combination, touches of green apples, and even some raw, hop vegetal aromatics are found in the nose.

The beer is a bit too cold, this accentuates a finish that is very spicy and woody; this leans towards green wood notes and pine. This is backed by citrus, orange, tangerine and even some apple like notes as it warms. A vegetal note is brough out as the beer warms up. This is lighter bodied, but the oak certainly adds a texture and palate lingering astringency.

It is interestingly enough better when it was cold; after it warms up the oak just seems to overwhelm the hoppy base beer.

Pour on tap at Odell Small Batch Festival 2012, hazy orange with white head. Aroma brought notes of oak, pine, grass, some orange and grapefruit peel, hints of biscuit and bread, touch of earth and some zesty notes. Taste is a mix of slightly aged hops with some oak, bread and biscuit, some orange, lemon and grapefruit, touch of pine, finishing fairly bitter, slightly sweet. Pretty good.

Tap. Pours hazy pale gold with a medium, fizzy white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is earthy, floral and citrus hops, tropical fruity esters, biscuit and straw malt. Flavor is malt forward with fruity esters, medium hops and bitterness and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

@ 2012 Small Batch Fest. Kinda hazy orange copper with a thick foamy head. Aroma of fresh floral and herbal hops with a touch of dank oak...almost smells like weed. Flavor is hoppy with notes of herbal, pine, and floral hops with a gentle woody oak tone throughout. Again, kinda comes together to taste the way weed smells. But itís not extreme. Itís nicely balanced with caramelly sweetness. But the oak and hops are just a little much.

Tap at the brewery. Pours slightly hazy golden orange pour with white head. Nose is orange/citrus, a fair amount of malt, and mild oak. More citrus on the taste and a bit of wood. Bitter crispness.

Hazy tan/orange pour with white head and lace. Tangerines and wheaty malt aroma. Citrusy flavor like eating an old orange peel. Nice bitter finish. A bit thin and watery to me.

Sample at AZwine during RBWG. Pours a hazy orange amber color with a medium sized fluffy white head. The aroma had big citrus notes favoring tangerines and perhaps clementines. Some additional earthy, woody and caramel notes were also in the nose. The flavor was heavy with the citrus hops, tangerine, caramel malts, some grassy notes, woody with more subdued bitterness. This was very good and worth having again if I get the opportunity.
