Interesting brew, this - loads of grapefruit, pineapple and other tropical fruits - fairly dry - quite a bit of oak and toasted coconut, which actually compliments the overall tropical character of the beer - tangy, earthy finish - quite nice.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 hellbilly (3249) - scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA - JUL 14, 2011
on tap at az wine 2/21/11.
hazy yellow with a huge white fluffy head. as i drank farther into the keg the cloudier it got!
it smells like creamed grapefruit... if that is possible...mixed with notes of cedar, vanilla, spice, orange juice, woody earthy hops and grain.
the flavor is the same.... VERY dry palate with addition notes of pith, wood and herbaceous hops. it has a great tart finish and lingering aftertaste of grapefruit and various other citrus pulps.
it’s medium bodied with very soft carbonation and incredible sessionability.
on a side note, bob had this keg laying around for about three weeks. every day i would pull a pint out and every day the beer seemed to get progressively more sour/tart....cool. 9/4/9/5/18/4.5+

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 emmasdad (85) - , Colorado, USA - JUL 8, 2011
Poured a slightly cloudy golden color, with some white head. Nice aromas here, fresh hops, toasted oak and a little caramel. On the palate the oak and vanilla balanced nicely against the hops. I wanted to grab a growler to take home but this one was apparently on premises only.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 corby112 (2214) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 21, 2011
Draft at the 2011 Small Batch Fest.
Pours a dark, hazy golden tangerine/orange color with golden orange hues and a two finger frothy, soapy white headthat has excellent retention, eventually fading into a lasting cap . Chunks of soapy lace left behind.
Slightly earthy aroma with subtle funk. earhty oak vanilla, sweet citrus and tropical fruit. Mango, pineapple and orange peel with a strong barrel presence. This gies off some toasted oak but takes away slightly from the other notes.
Slightly earthy and tart with subtle puckering flavor and an odd combo of earthy oak, vanilla, cream and sweet tropical/citrus notes. Slightly dry with an earthy pine presence complimented by toasted oak and countered by cream and tropical/citrus fruit. Hints of papaya, pineapple, mango and orange peel with a dry, earthy finish. Very good!
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Terminus (2940) - Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA - JUN 14, 2011
tap during the RBWG-WOW, this was a total winner for me. this beer poured lightly hazy orange with a big fluffy white head. HUGE nose of tangerines-i mean tangerines all over the place. It was like i was drinking orange juice or smoething. Very mellow hops here-all citrus with not bitterness. usually, i dontl ike this kind of ipa but this worked fantastic! long woody finish from the barrel. this beer is fantastic! i wish they would bottle this as part of their Woodcutt series. I need to find this again!

On tap @ AZ Wine during RBWG 2011 - Pours a hazy amber color with a good size white head that lasted to the end. Which didn’t take long. Nice lacing. Aroma is big time citrus. Mostly tangerine with a hint of wood. Flavor is the same. The finish is so smooth. No astringent aftertaste at all. Medium body. This was probably my favorite beer the whole RBWG weekend. Just awesome!
