3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Deep brown, tall and café-au-lait color and fine mousse.
Full body, flavorful, lively and smooth but not silky mouthfeel, long palate.
Roast flavors predominate but also coffee, chocolate, toffee, smoke and tar.
Very good imperial stout, not the best to my taste.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a tulip glass.
Aroma- Big roasted coffee bean aroma
Appearance- Looks like used motor oil, has a small brown head
Taste- Not good to me, acidic with no back end flavor, sort of empty after the initial tasting (this occurred on each sip)
Palate- A full bodied beer with mild carbonation, has a dry bitter finish.
Overall- I did not care for this beer at all. RIS’s are not my favorite style of beer but I do enjoy several; this ain’t one of them.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is lots of chocolate and some roast. Flavor is some chocolate and roast, with a bitter finish that is almost sour. A bit thin, a bit odd, and just ok.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle: A very dark brown, near black pour with a creamy brown head. Great aroma of roast, espresso, light smoke, and molasses. Sweet, yet roasty, and inviting. The flavors parallel the aroma, sweet and roasty. Just the right amount of ash to go with the sweeter notes, espresso, and some bittersweet pieces. A little tin on the body, but overall I’m digging this. 9/4/8/3/16 = 4.0

Old rating. Black pour with tan head. Big char, chocolate, anise, some dark fruit. Long bitter finish. Just okay for imperial.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask with vanilla beans and cocoa nibs sampled at ACAT 2015. Pours a deep black with tan brown head. Aroma of mostly chocolate and vanilla, just a hint of roast. Taste follows with a bit better balance, alcohol well hidden, a little thin though. Decent.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Winter Beer Fest, Philadelphia: Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is mostly chocolate, not very much coffee, roasted malt. This is a rather light Imperial Stout. this is not anything all that impressive either. Mostly chocolate. It is lightly sweet. It ain’t very bitter. Meh.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle into snifter, no bottle dating. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense dark brown head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, molasses, dark bread, light raisin, smoke, light char, herbal, light pine, and roast/smokey earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of deep roast/black malt and light-moderate hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, molasses, dark bread, light raisin, smoke, light char, herbal, light pine, and roast/smokey earthiness. Fair amount of earthy hop/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roast, dark bread, molasses, smoke, light char, and roast/smoke earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and balance of deep roast/black malt and light-moderate hop flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, fairly creamy, and moderately chalky/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice imperial stout. All around good complexity and balance of deep roast/black malts and light-moderate hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.
