Originally brewed for Russian Royalty in the early 18th century, this style was born of necessity. The porter which was originally ordered spoiled en route. In order for the beer to survive the trip from England to the courts of Russia, the hops and alcohol were dramatically increased. O’Dempsey’s Your Black Heart Russian Imperial Stout combines a silky mouth feel with a balance between sweet malts and bitter hops that pairs well with strong cheeses, dark chocolates and fine cigars. Truly a luxury befitting even your Royal Highnesss. Enjoy.

12 oz bottle. Pours an oily black with a dark mocha head that fades quickly. The aroma is very heavy on roasted malt with a touch of licorice and hints of coffee and chocolate. The flavor is very similar. The chocolate and roast seem to dominate here and then the coffee and maltiness come in. The mouth feel is great. It's very creamy and the flavors really coat the mouth nicely. Solid, solid stout ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From the November 2013 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured thick and black with a medium sized creamy dark tan head that faded and left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet with notes of anise, malted milk, strong vanilla and coffee. The flavor was bitter and roasty with sweetish black licorice, vanilla, malted milk, port wine and a hint of smoke. Long roasty licorice and vanilla finish. Moderately full bodied and creamy. Solid.

12oz bottle from Manahawkin Spirits. Pours jet black with a finger of creamy dark mocha colored head. Aroma of fudge brownies, coffee, vanilla, and slightly boozy. Taste of ground espresso beans, chocolate, caramel and roasted malts, and slight vanilla notes in the aftertaste. Nice rich stout.

Bottle, thanks sevenhokie! Aroma is chocolate with vanilla and coffee notes. Pours black with a thin, light brown head and good lacing. Rich chocolate flavors dominate the palate to start followed by light vanilla and coffee notes. Finishes silky smooth with a touch of coffee lingering at the end. Fantastic. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle to taster (shared with my roommate; thanks Brigadier). Looks good; a mostly opaque dark cola with thin foamy beige head that dissipates into lacing. Smells and tastes solid; dark malt, chocolate, and hops. Average on the palate. A solid example of the style.

12 oz. bottle, bought in December 2012. Black color, with a medium, bubbly, brown head. The lacing falls pretty quickly. The aroma is milk chocolate, toast, light earth, and faint cherry notes. Sweet and malty, with a mild, but interesting, bitter and sour finish. Light to medium body, watery feel, and a little astringent. Overall, this is a light, phenolic beer. The flavor is nicely chocolate, with present, but minimal roasted bitterness.

12oz bottle thanks to Brigadier, thanks Nate! Pours pitch black with a nice dark brown head and lacing through out the entire glass, aroma is roasty with a ton of chocolate but a hint of hops mixed in there as well, pretty different, flavor has a dark chocolate front end with some vanilla sweetness in the finish too, really nice thick mouthfeel, wow, super impressed with this, I really like that it’s only 8% as well, nice.
