COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally brewed for Russian Royalty in the early 18th century, this style was born of necessity. The porter which was originally ordered spoiled en route. In order for the beer to survive the trip from England to the courts of Russia, the hops and alcohol were dramatically increased. O’Dempsey’s Your Black Heart Russian Imperial Stout combines a silky mouth feel with a balance between sweet malts and bitter hops that pairs well with strong cheeses, dark chocolates and fine cigars. Truly a luxury befitting even your Royal Highnesss. Enjoy.

Very dark appearance. Slight head after pour. Great aroma. Tastes like a dark chocolate stout with a smooth finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

First off thanks to SJ for this bottle. I enjoyed this stout very much. It has everything it needs, good notes of roast, coffee, dark fruit and a dry crisp finish. The only thing it is lacking in is the body. Sloghtly thin for my taste.

What a huge, beautiful beer! Served in my snifter at almost room temp, this beer exploded with aroma as soon as I poured it. Really nice head, and really nice color, though a little on the dark side. Lots of dough and chocolate notes come through on the flavor, as does tar and a bit of rasin characters. It finishes very clean! The only thing I would change...this would be 100% awesome spiced with a pepper! Fantastic RIS!

A good beer overall, but far from a standout as far as Imperial stouts are concerned, as this style is dominated by some of the biggest and best beers around. Pour is a nearly black with a dark brown head that quickly fades. Nose is nice. Roast and coffee most prominent, with some sweetness. Flavor parallels the nose, with more of the sweet fruit flavors coming out in the finish.

UPDATED: MAR 11, 2013 Solid. Bitter stout taste similar to all the great Russian Imperials. Poured from 12oz bottle, solid dark pour with cocoa colored foam.

3/6/13. 12oz bottle from 5 Points. Deep black pour with a small brown head that fades. Rich aroma with lots of roast, coffee, some acidic aspects, dark fruits, cherry, and a touch of licorice. Rich flavor with ash, rich coffee and chocolate, dark fruits, and lingering dry, roasted malts. Not bad - overcarbonated.
