COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally brewed for Russian Royalty in the early 18th century, this style was born of necessity. The porter which was originally ordered spoiled en route. In order for the beer to survive the trip from England to the courts of Russia, the hops and alcohol were dramatically increased. O’Dempsey’s Your Black Heart Russian Imperial Stout combines a silky mouth feel with a balance between sweet malts and bitter hops that pairs well with strong cheeses, dark chocolates and fine cigars. Truly a luxury befitting even your Royal Highnesss. Enjoy.

Bottle from Ale Yeah! In Decatur, GA. Thick, black color with dark beige thick head. Taste and smell are thick black coffee. Slightly bitter and acidic.

Oh yeah. That’s the stuff. This is nice and thick with a good level of bitterness to it. Good coffee notes to it and will put some hair on your chest. I like it.

Strong, smoky aroma has firm tones of coffee and semi-sweet chocolate with hints of licorice and anchovies. It pours a rich, opaque coffee brown just a hair above black with a thick, fairly persistent tan head. Flavor has notes of roast coffee, semi-sweet chocolate and molasses with hints of licorice, anchovy and hops and just a touch of sweetness. Full-bodied texture is fizzy and lively, quite satisfying. Definitely fit for royalty!

Very dark appearance. Slight head after pour. Great aroma. Tastes like a dark chocolate stout with a smooth finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A very good rich stout. Yet very smooth with a velvety chocolate taste. Pretty sweet with a lack of alcohol in the flavor and aroma.

The dark brown pour had ruby highlights while coming out of the bottle, but looked nearly pitch black in the glass. The head was nearly two finger thick, and khaki in color. The smell was very foreboding, with dark chocolate, dark coffee, and dark skinned fruits. The taste was not quite as aggressive as the smell hinted at. There was sweet cocoa, caramel toffee, dark roasted coffee, and vanilla in the taste. Some bittering hops showed up in the finish briefly. The body was appropriately dense and chewy. The beer was good, but could have used a bit more boldness.

Bottled. Poured very near black with a tall, creamy, well-retained beige head. The aroma picked up sweet, roasty, toasty chocolates, black malts, and vanilla.. warmer chocolate biscuits came through on the 2nd wave.. warm and well-presented. The flavor found more burnt black malts and fresh earthy bitterness than anything else.. some vanilla and blended chocolates as well.. picked up spicy pine and black pepper on the long, belly-warming finish. Heavier-bodied and silky smooth on the palate.. very well-balanced.. lovely brew!
