3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Slightly minty notes (probably the juniper) and some coffee hints on the nose. Deep brown color with pronounced amber hues, soapy medium tan head. Flavor is dark chocolate with cacao nib pieces, juniper spice is noticeable in the bitterness and subtly in the taste. Medium body, good carbonation, finishes with an herbal snap. Was expecting to be overwhelmed with juniper and was not. It is an excellent interplay of what can normally be a strong spice in the depth of other flavors. Unique yet familiar--nicely executed.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
I have tried this beer on numerous occasions, whether on draft or from a bottle. Every time it never fails to underwhelm me. Usually some hot girl I know will just gush about this beer and Iíll be like ok, Iím willing to try it AGAIN because she says so. Pours purpley-amber with almost no head, and whatever head that forms, quickly dissipates. Aroma is muddy, candy-sweet with a slight piney aroma, a bit more spruce-like really. Sugary sweet up front in flavor, with a mixed candy-like sweetness. There really isnít enough bitterness to hold up the sugar, it seems bitter in the "old orange peel pith" kinda way. Similar to frozen concentrated orange juice. Iíve tried to like this beer on many many occasions, yet it still fails to impress me.

Amber pour, yellowed/tan head. Citrus hops, caramel, some alcohol warmth. Nothing spectacular but not offensive.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle shared. Certainly an amped up amber with some dark roast, caramel, cofffee, some char/smoke and the junipers poke through slightly. Ok.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Mahogony-brown beer with a dark cream head. Juniper and malt aroma. Juniper and malt flavor with light caramel. Medium bodied. Juniper and light caramel lingers. Would score higher if I liked juniper in my beer.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Red with an off-white head. The aroma has a lot of juniper and herbal notes, while the flavor is different. I get some chocolate and toffee notes. Very dry. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

28-Jul-13 (22-oz bottle: Free sample bottle for stewarding the 2012 World Beer Cup in San Diego, CA)
This beer pours a clear, amber-brown body with an inch of light-tan head that settles to a tall ring and partial sheet, leaving ringed and patchy lacing on the glass. The nose is wonderfully malty and toasty with lots of lightly sweet chocolate, a touch of caramel and a hint of pine-like herbs. This malty theme continues on the palate. They call this an amber ale, but it tastes more like a brown ale to me, and itís really delicious! The lightly sweet, chocolatey, and very toasty malts are so delicious! Hops are light, perhaps a touch of grassiness, and the mild bitterness is probably more from the roastiness of the malt. Toasted coconut peeks out from time to time, and the juniper berry adds a bit of herbal flavor that gives the otherwise-malty beer a nice lift. Itís medium-plus in weight, medium in carbonation, fairly dry, and super easy to drink. Overall, this is a damn good beer; I could drink the hell out of it. Itís a beer for malt-heads like me.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very dark red brown some white head. Smells of woody pine, smoky and caramelly. Tastes of coffee, bitter herbs, and sorta banana fruity. Lactic acid tang and firm carb keep it from getting too heavy. I wish it were a little more light bodied, but overall Iím very pleased with how good this is... well balanced.
