Bottle. Pours a deep ruby hue with a medium light beige head. A big sweet nutty and fruity nose. A nice flavor: big spices, some strawberry, dark chocolate, nutmeg, finishes dry. Interesting. A bit warm.

Bottle:   Deep caramel, very thick, moderate to large frothy light beige head, sparse lacing.   Heavy bready aroma, whole wheat like, sweet, minor fig/date.   Strong sweet whole wheat like flavor, candied figs/dates as well.   Thankfully not too heavy.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Lots of candied figs/dates on the exit.   Seems smooth, but not heavy.   Seems a little flat on the tongue as well, not very bubbley.   I liked this more than I thought I would.

Lagerboy (670) - British Columbia, CANADA - APR 21, 2013
Clear deep dark cola color, foamy tan head disappears quickly. Fruity burnt malt aroma. Dark fruity yeastiness and roasted caramel malt taste, close to cloying candy sugar sweetness, no bitterness. Softly carbed, medium-full bodied, lightly hopped. Moderate alcohol warmth leads to a port-ish finish. Decent ASA. DNFL (Definately Not For Lagerboys)

Large bottle from Viti at The Met in New Westminster. Very dark in color, not quite black, somewhat translucent. Sweet malts on the nose. Taste is mostly of malts, with chocolate and dried fruit overtones. Not much hop detected. Not bad, but not a winner.

Lovely dark opaque brown brew. Tan head that stays for a while. Good lacing Strong raisins on the nose. Also toffee, and alcohol. Belgian yeast flavors up front in flavor that taper into a salty rye wheatiness. Finishes with a noticable hop kick. Not very sweet at all. Also lightly carbonated. Seems like a beer for someone who really wants a strong dark flavorful brew but without the usual sickly sweet thick on the palate characteristics. I would buy it again if that is what I was looking for.

Purchased at the COOP last night.. Poured into my goblet tonight.. deeep amber/walnut brew.. nice clarity and a decent dark tan head that doesn’t really leave any lacing or retention. Nose is mainly dark malts and coffee.. not getting much in the way of a BSDA... I guess some minor clovey notes .. but NOTHING honestly Belgian. Dark malt and a bit of tobacco.. cocoa.. soy.. Nothing... NOTHING Belgian.. Lighter body for a bigger ABV brew.. but nothing comes out in the supposed yeasty elements... I could see this as a Belgian Stout IF "IF" ""IF"" a Belgian yeast was allowed to do it’s damage.. but this is a pretty poor attempt at anything with a "Belgian" tag. Funny.. The body/carbonation are about right for a BSDA.. but otherwise this is a big ole watery over carbonated porter... Christ... I feel bad for this review... Honestly.

(650ml bottle) Purchased at Hillside Liquors. pours a medium, white frothy head atop a black body. Nose of coffee and ash. Tongue has quite a bit of bubblegum, whic isn’t bad but its somewhat cloying for a Belgian Strong... This is almost dubbel-tripel status but the body is somewhat thin. Smooth, not terribly carbonated. Overall good yet, for me, this is too sweet.

Bottle share. Clear amber. Spicy dark fruit aroma. Alcohol and fruit malt taste. Nutty. This is more of an American strong. Where's the "Belgian"?

fiulijn (12179) - Malmö, DENMARK - DEC 28, 2012
Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Dark mahogany color, with creamy head. It has a mild aroma of toasted nuts. Smooth mouthfeel, good body strength, strong flavor of dark caramel, with some residual sweetness, and strong bitterness; traces of chocolate and roasted nuts too. They could have extracted more malt flavor; and the yeast gives a dusty impression instead of a classic Belgian spiciness; also, in the final there is some alcohol perception.
Solid but not impressive.
