Pours a very murky dark brown with no lasting head whatsoever. Strangely there is a small eruption of carbonation visible at the centre of the glass that is perpetual. Aroma is very sweet raisin, plum, banana and alcohol. Small whiff of black licorice in there as well. Taste is dark fruit, phenolic, banana. Intensely sweet and cloying. Finish is some licorice again with a breadiness and still a syrupy sweetness that is too much. Alcohol rather hot. Some decent elements but it feels brash and unrefined and far, far too sweet.

Nose of dark fruit, roasted malts, toasted bread, belgian yeast pehnol - banana, clove, sweet and phenolic american belgian notes. A little raisin and alcohol in there as well. Pours dark brown, thin off white head. The flavor is toasty and roasty with lots of raisin, dark fruit, brown sugar, phenolic yeast notes, and some alcohol notes. Not overly sweet and somewhat balanced by the roasted notes. Medium carbonation.

Bomber. Dark reddish brown in appearance with decent sized tan head. Predominately Belgian in the nose with lots of banana, clove, caramel and dark fruit. The taste hits on all those notes beginning with caramelized sugar, Belgian yeast and dark fruit (raisin, prune, date,) flavors followed by some chocolate, gingerbread and rum notes. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with moderate carbonation and a dry, boozy finish. Plenty of dessert spices in the aftertaste. Overall, a respectable BSA that’s similar in flavor to some of The Bruery’s recent Twelve Beers of Christmas releases.

Dark brown with an ivory head. Roasted notes on the nose with some coffee. Complex palate showing toffee/caramel, roasted malts and some earthiness. Mouth coating and rich. Long finish.

Tap @ Red Hot. Clear, dark amber pour with a short white head and moderate lace. Cocoa and brandy nose. Heavy body with moderate carbonation. Great flavors in this one: vanilla, chocolate, raisins, singed caramel, and salty licorice. Finish sees the umami emerge with roast vegetables, cheddar and leather matching the sweeter body flavors. IF you’re looking for something without the standard BSA flavors, it’s worth a try. An unusally ’chance um’ ale from Odin which I enjoy very much.

Draft at ncbc. Pours nearly black with scant tan head. Chocolate and plum nose. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Chocolate and plum mid palate. Sweetish finish.

Sampled on tap at SIB. Pours a clear brown/orange with a creamy white head. Aroma is of sweet summer fruits, roasted malts and candied sugar. Flavour is the same. Very sweet, and very dry. Moderately complex.

Sampled on tap at SIB, pours deep dark red with a medium beige head. Aroma of candied sugar, caramel and dark fruits. Flavour is cloyingly sweet, with a little wood, heaps of caramel and candied sugar. The intense sweetness detracts from what would otherwise be a well-done Belgian-style.

Brownish in color, clear with a thin tan head. Big malt and hops aroma with a light fruit lingering. Strong malt and floral flavors. This was strong dark Belgian ale. 10% in alcohol this can and will sneak on you. Very tasty dry finished brew The yeast flavor is not over powering I really liked this brew.
