18/VI/2012 - 33 cl bottle from Kerstbierenfestival (Essen) @ home - BB: XII/13 (2012-637)

Little cloudy dark purple beer, big fizzy and "loud" head (you can actually hear it dissolving, pretty loud). Head falls down to half a finger of beige stable foam, non adhesive. Lots of sediment floating around. Aroma: very fruity, forest fruits, dried fruits, ripe cherries, bit sugary, little vinous. MF: good carbon, medium body. Taste: lots of ripe fruits, bit sugary, sweet, dried fruits, ripe banana, some alcohol. Aftertaste: overripe banana, caramel, some mocha, some spices, I’m guessing cinnamon and cloves. This is listed as an imperial stout? Was someone high on crack or something? Strong Belgian Ale will do just fine, thanks.

33 cl. bottle sampled. Procured from Willems. Pours a slightly reddish dark brown with mocha bubbles. Smells of fermenting dark fruits, leaves and liquorish, cheap maple, okay. Thick bitterness upfront, sweet liquorish, slightly metallic, thick, leaves, malts, leaves, touch cocoa. Touch ticker body. Meh, okay, agreeable.

Countbeer (4078) - Best of E-Town mit ein Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - APR 19, 2013
Bottle: Medium to fuller sized, slowly changing beige creamy foamy head on top of a murky dark brown with blackish tints colored beer. Aromas of raisin, prunes, sweets, marzepin, barley malts, cream, marshmellows, iron and some alcohol drenched darker fruits. Flavours of spices, prunes, raisin, soap, bitters, spices, iron, thin sweets, malt and light herbal flower touch. Aftertaste is a mix of spices, bitters, dark fruits and malts. Low to medium carbo, soft creamy lightly blown mouthfeel, medium to fuller body and a creamy and a bit tin texture. Decent beer, bit tinner than expected and some iron notes, but not bad.

(bottle, 33cl) Cloudy, murky brown colour with a big, beige and firm foamy head. Slightly sugary toast-malty aroma with notes of dark and red berries, accompanied by a mildly spicy touch. Sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a modest carbonation. Dark malt-character with loads of berry fruits, traces of caramel and spicy notes in the background; moderately sweet and toasty malty finish with fruity and moderately spicy notes. Okay but not really world-shaking. 15.II.13

A sweet strong ale that stops just short of cloying and shows more dark fruit (plum, currant) than roast. Not unpleasant for all that, but not very drinkable either. Dark maroon color with creamy beige head.

Bottle @ Kerstbierfestival 2011 in Essen (B). A hazy red/brown colored beer, with a beige head. The aroma of fruits, malts like an English ale. The taste of sweet fruits, malts and notes of bitter. The aftertaste is very sweet and a little bitter.
