4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
bottle at dakís 1/2/11.
this is like the yellowest beer iíve seen!
skunky noble hop aroma mixed with notes of lemon, yeast, pale graininess, straw, grass and a touch of vanilla.
the flavor shares all of the aromaís notes and adds a little bitterness and pepper on the finish.
the medium body is crisp and refreshing yet there is a little sludgey-ness. 8/4/8/4/16+

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
So sad to hear that Peter and Rick have hung up the boots on Odonata. Maybe the world wasnít ready for Saison, but I know there is a lot to the story beyond that. Anyway, seems about time to throw up a memorial to one of the best American-brewed saisons to have briefly graced the market. After having a few bottles of this, I never liked is quite as much as the awesome draft version, but it was nonetheless a very good saison. Lots of tropical fruit, citrus, and round, bready malt flavors packed in a glowing deep gold beer with a big white head. Hopefully Peter is brewing something comparable now up at Sutter Buttes in Yuca City. Now I just have to find an excuse to make the drive all the way up there...

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at Craigs. Poured a nice light gold colour with a thick white head. Gooseberries and some bready yeast on the nose. The taste was caramel and malty, alcohol was fairly present and some yeast in there. A thick, creamy mouthfeel. Likeable but not overly funky for a saison

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
15 June 2011, bottle at one my last cgarvieuk tasting! light gold, clear, some steady bubbles, thin bubbly head. slightly yeasty, sugary golden malt. full body, slightly fizzy. sweet and clean for a saison. some bitter finish. not as farmyardy as i like a saison. this is more of a belgian gold ale. but nice.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from bomber into a glass. Foaming is instant and prevalent! Color is straw like a wheat, and cloudy. Aroma is similar to most wheats iíve tasted, Clove and banana. Flavour was offputing the first time I tasted, however after drinking several trippels and saisons, Iím now accustomed to the flavours and really enjoyed this b Iím sad to see they are out of buisness, and suprised to see they were in Sacramento. Is this beer still being made?

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours slightly hazy with a beautiful golden yellow color and a foamy, soapy white head that will get away from you if youíre not careful (I wasnít). Clean, earthy, spicy aromas. Crisp biscuity malt and a light candy sweetness followed by peppery, spicy, earthy flavors and a lemony sourness. There seems to be a sour/wild yeast/bacteria sub-flavor here that is excellent and balanced and doesnít overpower the other flavors. Leaves behind a dry, spicy flavor on the tongue. This is an excellent American version of Saison thatís very drinkable and great with food.
Sadly, in looking up information on Odonata Brewing, I found that they recently announced that they have decided to close up shop. This is very upsetting as this beer really is excellent and I was looking forward to having it available now that it showed up at Bev Mo. Going there now to buy a few bottles to enjoy later now that they wonít be around. :(
