On tap @ Beer Temple (still the first batch brewed @ De Molen). Barman/Oedipus brewer Sander told me it was brewed with Sorachi Ace hops, lemongrass, szechuan pepper and other spices. Murky red-brown color. Uneven off-white head. Aroma’s: spices and herbs, anise, caramel, lightly acidic, medium bitter. Flavor is herbal spicy, lightly acidic, medium bitter. Body is medium. Finishes herbal spicy, dry, bitter. Some moderation on the spice side would be good.

Bottle, at a cafe in Amsterdam. Hazy medium gold with a large lasting white head. Aroma has elements of yeast, flowers, and citrus. The palate delivers moderately sweet pale malts, spicy yeast with floral and grassy undertones. The finish has a citrus tartness and mild bitterness. Quite nice.

Bottle. Light golden, hazy, average and mostly lasting head. Moderate, malty - lightly wheaty and lightly sweetish aroma, light floral fruitiness and light - some citrus and some spiciness (pepper and coriander). Body is medium, malty - lightly wheaty and lightly sweetish flavor, faint citrus and light - some spiciness. Finish is average, malty - lightly wheaty and lightly sweetish, light citrus and some sharp spiciness, faint hoppyness. Saison with sharp spiciness and too little bitterness.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - golden with a proportionate fluffy head. Lovely fine lines of bubbles. Nose - citrus and light spice. Taste - candied orange and white pepper. Get the smoky spice of Szechuan peppercorn too. Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry tight finish. Overall - a great example of the saison style.

Very fruity for a saison, but still with the complex notes that suit this type of beer. Usually not really a fan, but this is interesting.

Flesje van de Hema. Troebel lichtgoud onder een witte plakkerige kraag, ziet er goed uit. Aroma van gist, citrus, mout. Smaak neigt naar ananas met een droge, bittere wat peperige afdronk.

Peppered saison from a progressive Dutch micro brewery, tasted at Gollem in Antwerp. Very thick and frothy, rocky, lacing, dense snow white head over a vaguely pinkish peach blonde beer, misty. Pleasant aroma of soapy wheat, fresh nettles, sourdough, green peppercorns, sweat, redcurrant, celery, unripe pineapple, sundried tomato and flowers. Crisp, fruity taste, hints of sour berries and unripe peach, a bit overcarbonated, deep basic wheat sourishness, citrus peel freshness, bit bready in the middle, light sourish finish paired with pink grapefruit bitterishness, herbal, earthy hops and dry yeastiness, but very little of the expected chilli heat. Nice saison and credible as such, but I expected more ’oomph’ from this brewery.
