330ml bottle. Opaque, darkest brown colour with average to huge, thick, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Dark malty aroma, roasty, herbal, some liquorice, effluvia of artificial vanilla and chocolate flavours, hundreds and thousands, marshmallows. Taste is roasty dark malty, slightly herbal, minimally salty, bitter hoppy overtones, hints of liquorice, soup cube; slightly crumbly palate.

Black with thin, dark, creamy head. Aroma has a touch of smoke and charcoal. Also a bit grassy. Flavour is smokey and a bit savoury/salty. Roast malts up front and a light hop bitterness in the finish.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a latte-colored head. Aroma is roasted malts, grapefruit, their combination of salty liquorice, lightly sour smoke. Taste is roasted, tad smoked, grapefruit, citrus, dry. Fairly full with strong carbonation. Too strong really. Not that pleasant.

For a stout, it’s quite drinkable. Nice notes of coffee and espresso. Also, fabulous beer name with an awesome label.

Bottle on the IOW Jolly, homeward train tasting, thanks to Layton-Rayton 24/08/14. Light black with a well appointed tan covering that dissipates then retains. Nose is light roast, soapy notes, cocoa powder, earthy tang, dark toffee. Taste comprises light spice, earthy cocoa, brown sugars, mineral pang. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a noted hop presence. Ok stout.

(Oedipus Panty) Bottle 330 ml at home, poured into a big snifter. ABV 6% Deep brown colour on the body, tall and thick beige head, with great retention, leaving heavy lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, oats, liquorice, light roasted malts. Taste of oats, more intense roasted malts and especially on the finish, light chocolate and spices. Mildly bitter aftertaste. Medium thin body, good carbonation, smooth on the palate. Good beer.

Opaque brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is semi dry, light and mildly crisp. Tangy dark malts, touches of dark chocolate and dark fruits. Light airy finish. Just another porter, stout whatever! But fine.

UPDATED: SEP 12, 2014 On tap at Gollem; nice beer ... aroma of coffee/espresso with a hint of sweetness. Quite easy drinking for a stout .. nice body, not very bitter. I would definitely buy this one again

At first fresh and easy, but quickly reveals a richness consisting of hay, cacao, tobacco, old coffee, a hint of Kikoman soy sauce, and a somehow soapy sensation. The aftertaste spoils it for me; I tasted paracetamol and for minutes afterwards I felt like having a ashtray from the back of my mouth to my nose. It’s quite an experience, but not necessarily a good one. Tricky, complex, original, but not as tasty as I like them.
