Clear dark black brown color with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, light chocolate, moderate yeasty, rubber notes. Flavour is moderate sweet and moderate to light light heavy bitter with a long duration, burnt, dark roasted, ash, earthy, nutty. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20140325]

Opaque brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is semi dry, light and mildly crisp. Tangy dark malts, touches of dark chocolate and dark fruits. Light airy finish. Just another porter, stout whatever! But fine.

Bottle on the train home during the Isle of Wight Jolly. Pours black-brown with a rich, tan froth. The nose has lots of roast, burnt wood and dry chocolate. Light to medium sweet flavor with notes of ash, earth, chocolate and burnt meat. Medium bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Nice and roasty on the finish with dry, chalky cocoa. Good balance and depth. Solid.

Bottle on the IOW Jolly, homeward train tasting, thanks to Layton-Rayton 24/08/14. Light black with a well appointed tan covering that dissipates then retains. Nose is light roast, soapy notes, cocoa powder, earthy tang, dark toffee. Taste comprises light spice, earthy cocoa, brown sugars, mineral pang. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a noted hop presence. Ok stout.

The taste is bitter-sweet, roasty, coffee grounds, spicy, alcohol and orange peel with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Solid hoppy dark beer.

330 ml bottle. Pours a black colour with a small beige head. Aroma of roastiness, pine, some spruce and nuttiness. Flavour of roastiness, cream, nuttiness, yeastiness, grassy bitterness and salt. Some unpleasant earthiness as well. Medium bodied and a bit thin mouthfeel. Low carbonation. Decent but a bit weird.

(Bottle, In De Wildeman, Amsterdam, 1 March 2014) Black colour with brief, frothy, pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, dark chocolate and dark bread. Malty, roasted taste with coffee, chocolate, dark bread, a touch of liquorice and a dry finish with a generous roasty bitterness. Medium body, quite dry. Well balanced and tasty stout. Nice one.
