COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black as a cold winter night, this beer was designed to fit the season instead of conforming to the rules of any style category. The unique blend of seemingly enless ingredients include: toasted hemp seeds, oats, malted rye, wheat, Amarillo and Citrahops and a Belgian yeast strain. Don’t be afraid of the myriad of flavors in the balanced black ale as it is deceivingly soft and sessionable especially during the dark days of winter.

12 oz bottle (screw top) from Baruni’s in Baden, PA. Perhaps a tad too sweet, but overall quite enjoyable. For a black ale it holds up just fine.

Draft to pint. Looks solid; a transparent orangish-brown with thin off-white lacing. Smells doughy. Tastes like it smells with a weird taste that detracts from the flavor. Average (at best) on the palate. Underwhelming.

On tap at Roots. Pours a clear dark brown with a brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a has a combination of musty pine and creamy dark grains. Flavor has dark grains wIth a pretty song grassy hop note with a hint of dirt.

Aroma - Nutty and malty, fresh cooked bread, milk chocolate, hint of fruit. Different, that’s for sure. I’d give this an 8 if the aroma was amped up a bit more. Appearance - Dark brown on the pour. Held up to light, the amber red comes through a bit more, but still very dark. Small light tan head that dissipated pretty quickly. Good amount of sticky lacing on the glass though. Taste - Nutty flavor up front with a very nice roasted malt taste, dark fruit, toasted oats, slightly buscuity, creamy. The hops, (or is that hemp), comes through very well. A lot heavier tasting than most other black ales I’ve had. If I didn’t know better, I’d swear this was a porter. Palate - Very creamy with low carbonation. Like I just said, a lot heavier than most other ales. Definitely feels more like a porter. Overall - Easy to drink and strong on taste! Probably the heaviest ale I’ve ever had. I’m a big porter fan, so this one is right up my alley. Definitely worth a try for the porter and stout fans!

Solid black. Very thin tan head. Tastes like marble bread. Not much taste, but smooth for how dark and bready asit is. Would be amazing with smoke or oats.

Bottle. Pours nearly black with a small tan head. Bitter somewhat herbal nose. Pleasant toasted flavor, except for a hit of something like licorice in the end that was somewhat off-putting.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours black with a very small head that quickly fades and leaves little to no lacing. S: Roasted malt with some grain notes and a hint of a sweet chocolate. T: Follows the nose with roast malt and earthy notes. Finishes dry with a bittersweet chocolate. F: Medium body, smooth and well balanced. O: Much better than I expected. Very quaffable, easy to drink the whole 6 before you realize it... Serving type: bottle

Sweet sorghum licorices smell. Pitch black thin head from bottle. Taste is a bitter sweet sorghum strong flavor. Thick body. Weird flavor if anyone likes molasses it would be an awesome beer.
