That’s right, there’s hemp in this smooth, polished amber ale. To be specific, we use hemp seed - one of the oldest and healthiest of ingredients - to create a subtle toasted nutty flavor that compliments the hops (a botanical cousin to hemp) and rye. We use Cara Rye and Malted Rye for a subtle spiciness and rich ruby color and Victory Malt to tie together the flavors with a nuttiness that compliments the hemp seed flavor. German Hallertauer hops add seasoning and we finish with Cascade hops for a crisp citrus aroma and taste. This wide assortment of flavors harmonize, creating a uniquely smooth and flavorful beer! Enjoy!

Tastes like a mediocre homebrew. Pours a hazy amber with two fingers of head. Slight citrus aroma with some caramel. Tastes like caramel and earthy but like dirt, not in a good way. Finishes pretty dry. Medium to light bodied.

12oz bottle. Poured an amber color with a small sized off white head. Citrus, some spiciness, and a hint of caramel.

Orange pour with a white head. The aroma is full of orange, toffee and grain. The flavor is similar with some toffee and biscuit notes up front and some orange and grass notes coming through later. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Flavor starts with some citrusy hops in the front, giving way to a very earthy/musky character with some caramel flavors throughout. Not sure about what the hemp adds, but I think the rye gives it sort of a nutty hint.

7/20/2010: O’Fallon Hemp Hop Rye Amber Ale... Aroma: Spicy and earthy; hints of citrus and tobacco; subtle caraway seed? Appearance: Mucky amber color with a dense head of beige-colored foam; decent head retention that slowly collapses to a frothy crown. Flavor: Earthy and floral/herbal; toffee maltiness; lots of spicy rye evident; bread crust and a tinge of tobacco; slightly nutty (from the hemp?); grassy/spicy hoppiness; mild bitterness that escalates with each sip;. Palate: Medium-bodied; easy to drink. Overall: Flavorful and unique; I love rye and really enjoyed this beer; I recommend this beer and look forward to having it again soon...

Bottle. Aroma is hoppy, grainy with something odd that I can't quite place. Perhaps a bit wheaty. Flavor is interesting, with the rye taking some heavy notes. Not sure what hemp tastes like but it could be what contributes the interesting flavor element. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Amber pour with watery tan head and lace. Aroma is sweet malt, spices, and no hops to me. Flavor is really sweet rye malt, a vegetable funkiness, a bito bitter finish. Medium bodied and fizzy..

Review from notes: A - Pours copper red with a thin beige head that sinks quickly. S - Sweet grain, sweet fermented fruit, some tangy caramel, not much going on here. T - Sweet off the top with over ripened fruit, stale grain, hints of spicy grass, caramel undertones, finishes M - Light body, with moderate prickly carbonation, slick and thin feel. I couldn’t pick up any of the bold spicy hops that I was expecting and barely got a hint of rye. Pretty sweet with an odd tangyness that seemed out of place. This is a one and done for me. I thought this was a mild and very balanced beer. Hops, although definitely at the forefront become milder as the nuttiness and maltiness bring the drink to nice balanced finish. It’s not a complex beer but for a beer lover, I find it to be quite good and worth the $8 spent on it. It was very refreshing on a hot day by the grill but I could also see this being great for cooler conditions as well. Good beer.

Bottled. Poured medium-deep orange with a short layer of beige head. The aroma picked up sweet biscuity notes, caramel, and rye.. some vanilla right on the back of the nose.. came across a bit too sweet. The flavor found sweet nutty notes, vanilla, and caramel at the core, with tart citrus and herbal notes around.. finished sweet with vanilla, nutty notes, and slightly aged hop bitterness. Light-medium bodied, more tart than expected, and a bit tacky on the palate.. this didn’t come together for me.
