Very dark brown with tan head. Aroma is smoky, roasted, umami, burnt bread, espresso. Smoke flavor is somewhat overpowering. Oily body. Enjoyable beer.

Purchased at Armanetti’s in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on a slightly boring Monday night after a long work day. Appearance is a cola like black with not much head, tiny carbonation bubbles rising to the top. Aroma of smoked malt, a hint of vanilla, a bit of wood. The taste is fantastic, the smoke flavor is incredibly dark, has a nice complexity, almost like a campfire with a slight jerky-like backing. There’s definitely better smoked porters out there (see Stone...) but this one ain’t bad.

I really enjoyed this porter from O’Fallon. Pours a very, very dark brown, almost black. with a thin, tan head. Aroma is smoke and wood. Fantastic smoke flavor with no lingering meat or fish flavor that I have caught with other smoked porters. Actually pretty light body for a porter. Easy carbonation and very smooth on the palate. Overall a winner for O’Fallon

I’m partial to this style, so it gets a small ratings boost by default. Most of the smoke/rausche beers that I’ve tried taste like some sort of meat product, but this one didn’t. Instead, it tasted more like roasted wood over an old fireplace. Not bad at all.

Light smoke. No head. The taste is better then I thought. Coffee, light smoke, round shape but still a little watery, sugar. Good bitterness on the finish. Not bad but seems pretty simple to me.

This beer is good stuff! A sure hit with the beer snob crowd. It’s like someone took smoked bacon and beer and made it work. Not at all what I expected when I popped the cap off the bottle. This brewery is a new favorite of mine. None of their products I have tried disappointed me.

A black beer with a red tinge and a quickly dissipating small tan head. The aroma is, of course, smoky and earthy, like a barbecue. The flavor is equally smoky, like drinking charcoal, with a little coffee and a lightly bitter finish.

Poured into brandy sifter.
Aroma is pleasant malty and smokey. Like a sweet camp fire.
Appearance jet black with a small quickly dissipating light khaki head.
Taste light smokiness tons of roasted malt flavors, almost no hop bitterness.
Mouth feel is great, lots of carbonation, crisp.
